Twitter fakeouts: Pitchfork reports “kanyewest” is fake

Hey, remember how I said that the Kanye West Twitter we reported on last week still might have been a fake? According to Pitchfork, I was right:

Turns Out That Twitter Wasn’t Actually Kanye West’s

. . .

Too bad that Twitter account wasn’t actually Kanye’s, it turns out. Posting on his blog this weekend, Kanye wrote, “I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS… THIS IS NOT ME!!!!!” above an image of the Twitter page as it stood in the wake of the Colbert tweet. And as of this morning, http://twitter.com/kanyewest/ has been deleted.

I’m rather smugly patting myself on the back for including the caveat about that not necessarily being Kanye’s Twitter in my previous post, but I’m also wondering whether “Stephen” will acknowledge this news on his show. After all, he did mention the Twitter response in his “We Humbled Him!” gloat on Thursday:

    interesting.
based on the real Kanye Twitter linked here by someone, I thought it was obvious it was fake. then when it got mentioned on the show, I was rather surprised.

I was pretty sure it was fake, but I wanted it to be real because it just would have been funnier that way, and obviously a joke on Kanye’s part. “Feud’s” with Stephen are always great.

I was actually pretty sure it was fake, too (it took me all of about three minutes to find a recent interview with Kanye in which he said he didn’t Twitter), but when Rolling Stone, et al, ran with it, it seemed like it would be worth mentioning.

Also, as Miss J pointed out, it was pretty funny.
