Friday Free-for-all: The “Oh hai, Saturday!” edition

Ok, so I’m a day late (and I didn’t do one of these last week). It’s been a busy week, and I figured if I posted some particularly adorable Eye Candy, that you would all forgive me.

So I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I had a lovely time at my mom’s house with ma and brother in Arkansas, and my nephew came and ate with us which was a particularly wonderful treat. He was slowing down a bit after eating most of his Thanksgiving plate, and he said, “This the second Thanksgiving dinner I’ve had.” I asked, “When did you eat your last one?” He said, “About 20 minutes ago. I was eating my first one when I called to say I’d come over.” Ah, to be 16, an athlete, and have a black hole for a stomach.

We got back on Saturday night and went to a Nerdcore rap show at Double Wide, featuring MC Lars and MC Frontalot. The lead singer from Bowling For Soup was there – it was quite cool. I’d highly recommend attending a show in your area if they swing by your town during their current tour. You won’t soon forget their live renditions of Mr. Raven, Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock or Nerdcore Rising.

I know I’m a little late, but I’d like to do a quick Thanksgiving post, and thank all of you Zoners who contribute on such a regular basis. It warms our hearts to see so many Zoners staying enthusiastic and intelligent in our appreciation of Stephen the performer, creator of an amazing character, while at the same time being respectful of Stephen Colbert the father and husband.

We take our goal of being a “Shiny, Happy Blog” very seriously. I’ve always taken great pride that our site has a very unique feel in the fandom, one where everyone feels safe, and can comment regularly and openly without fear of flame wars. One where you would feel comfortable sending your 13-year old niece, and your 60-year old grandma. One where there are voices from all races, genders, and religions. The Colbert Completists who maintain No Fact Zone work every day to help nurture our site’s individuality, and we are thankful for all of you who join us in maintaining the high standards that make us a such a well-respected fan site.

And what would a Friday Free-for-all post be without a tasty morsel of eye candy? I’d like to give a sincere thanks to Zoner DrMeowMix, who linked to Stephen’s Rockefeller Center appearance earlier this week (if you can’t watch the video in QuickTime, try downloading the VLC Player and watching it with that, which is what I had to do). The adorableness factor of these pics is just out of this world.

Thanks so much for the pictures and video! I had been looking for this.

DB, you know all is always forgiven when there’s eye candy involved. Stephen’s Rockefeller Center appearance was like a shining diamond in the c*** that was my Wednesday this week. I love that he was dressed like an 8-year-old kid about to go play in the snow… with a DVD sticking out of his pocket. Heh.

And since we’re doing belated thanks, thank you and the Colbert Completists for giving us such a shiny, happy place to indulge our obsession. Without NFZ, I would surely be annoying all my friends with my Xtreme Colbert Fangirliness.

The pictures really are adorable! I know I said this in another thread but I LOVE Stephen’s outfit. The DVD sticking out of his pocket and TCR button makes it that much better.

Since this is a late Thanksgiving post, I would like to share how thankful I am for NFZ, DB, my fellow Completists, and our readers. This site adds so much joy to my life in a daily basis. Thank you all for your part in making this a safe, happy, respectful place where a nerd like me can come celebrate Stephen’s work and discuss issues related to the show.

I can’t say this enough: every time I see Stephen all bundled up like that, I seriously want to go buy a sled.

Thank you to all who continue to make No Fact Zone the very first place I want to visit in the morning, and the very last place I check before I go to bed. I’ve met such wonderful, fantastic, all-around amazing people here and made some really great friends, all of which I’m thankful for every day.

And to all the Zoners who really bring forth some wonderful discussions, tidbits of information, or insightful comments that really make it a joy to peruse this site every day.

that video player was worth downloading also kind of an adventure. from some “unknown” mirror that was “nearby” in fact at “Georgia Tech” (not all that nearby) and then having an icon that is an orange traffic cone…nevertheless, excellent video. Stephen out looking silly and talking with a microphone reminds me of old TDS clips!

edit: oh dear! forgot the other half of the post! now I have only 4 minutes to express how thankful I am for this blog, which covers a topic I enjoy with the kind of care it deserves. I am all about being polite and respectful on the internet and this is a place where I can get as well as the best content and quality. THANK YOU ALL!

I love how if I saw anyone else be half as shameless in their self-promotion of things I would scoff at them. But I see Stephen with his DVD in his pocket, or with a row of DVD’s lined up in frame behind the guest on his show, and I’m smiling. Like, I’m seriously half expecting him to show up on Conan dressed in a giant replica costume of his DVD. Like, his face sticking out of a hole in a giant DVD box with like a santa hat on top.

And of course, NFZ, I totally appreciate the high standards this site is kept to. For that reason this is the only fansite I visit.

Haha! I love your costume idea for Stephen’s upcoming appearance on Conan. That made me laugh out loud. Thanks Miss J:)

I’ve never been part of another blog or fansite, but this is someplace special thanks to DB and her Colbert Completists. Great sense of community, mutual respect for one another, insightful comments, comprehensive coverage of Stephen 24/7. What more could one ask for? Thank you!

I’ve gotten into the habit of assuming that all Colbert fans must be NFZers. More than once have I asked someone, upon finding out that he or she is an It-Getter, “Oh, what’s your username on No Fact Zone?” only to get slightly confused if the person says they haven’t been on NFZ before. Then I remember not everyone’s an RSS-feed reading internet nerd.

But really, NFZ has now become for me a significant piece of the Colbert-fandom pie. Where else would I get up-to-date news of all things Stephen? Fawn with other fans over the adorableness of Stephen in an elf costume? And all in a family-friendly manner? A rarity, I say.

So thanks to DB and all the NFZ staff! You guys should get (or grant yourselves) an honorary degree from Colbert University in Community Forming.

Meanwhile, a glimpse of Stephen in a behind-the-scenes feature of Monsters vs. Aliens.

I hope that’s “Community Forming” rather than “Community Organizing”…because we all know how worthless community organizers are… ;) ;) ;) Maybe Community Formers are sort of like Community Organizers, except they have actual blogging responsibilities?
