Colbert Nation forum

So the gang over at the official site for ‘The Colbert Report’, ColbertNation.com, have been working very hard to get a new Colbert Nation forum ready for all of us. According to rhysc:

WHATS HAPPENING TO THE COLBOARD?
Nothing for now – it will remain fully functional for the time being. In early 2009 it will be made read only. You’ll all have plenty of warning before this happens.

The new boards are actually nested in the shiny, new ColbertNation.com site. Here are some things you need to know about the new boards:

VETERAN STATUS
If you’re a Colboarder, and you have over 1000 posts, you can request a special “Colboard Veteran” status by going to this thread. The Powers That Be want to make sure that the transition process flows smoothly and that everyone who has earned their wings over at the Colboard is recognized at the new boards.

BELLS AND WHISTLES
In addition to being on a much more stable platform than a BBS board, using this new software has also brought lots of nifty new features to the site:

  • HTML Editing – This means embed videos. Whoo hoo!
  • Linking to the ColbertNation.com community profiles
  • REAL Admins – This should hopefully tame down some of the “Lord of the Flies” mentality that was so pervasive in the old boards
  • Specific Off-Topic forums – Because, let’s face it, a little “Lord of the Flies” can be entertaining

Comedy Central management has been working with many of the current Colboarders and other fans to find out what the fandom wants, and has worked hard to get these features to us. They’ve got even more plans for the site, so definitely stay tuned.

i have noticed that the tcr site has a little blog on it now and links to this site occasionally. is that a new thing?

Yeah, that started about mid-October or so. And I’m still in shock that we’re there. I get such a kick out of seeing links there. We usually get linked once or twice a week.

well, i think it speaks to the fact that cc is recognizing that this is THE site for all things tcr and Colbert. congrats to you, i don’t know how you guys maintain this so well, it must be like a part-time job.
and the site has changed so much over the past years, it just gets better and better. cheers.

I am quite impressed with it so far. lots of explicitly stated freedoms, but still clear powers for the admins. if you liked your niche on the colboard, you’ll probably be able to maintain it on the new forums.

the biggest thing I’ve had to do so far is stop myself from manually typing BBCode!

So, this may seem like a rather blonde question, but are all the older Colboard posts completely gone now, and they’re starting from scratch, just better orgazined this time????

The older boards aren’t gone yet, but eventually they will be locked and remain Read Only. They are starting from scratch, yes. And they will be more organized and moderated.

14 minutes of a crotch-watch video “to test the limits” makes me believe the new forums will not be much different than the Colboard.

I think it’s a bit too early to tell. this is apparently some sort of “preview” period before the full marketing for the place is underway, so maybe when there are more new people coming in who don’t see that as the norm, things will change.

then again, the people who like that sort of thing, when transplanted, will probably not have a sudden change of preferences. there are enough strong personalities to set the tone both in the fangirl sections and in off topic.

I am interested to see how it turns out, but I’m not personally concerned.it would be a good time for me to reevaluate my use of the place anyway, cuz NFZ fits my style sooooo much better.
