Did you see last night’s Daily Show? Friend of The Report Arianna Huffington was the guest and talked about a subject near and dear to webmaster DB‘s heart: blogging. You can watch the interview here; I was particularly tickled to see Arianna start out by telling people to blog their passion … why on Earth would that sound familiar?
The self-proclaimed “blogging evangelist” also filmed and posted some backstage footage that you might find interesting (click on the image to go to the video):
Warning: Jon being … well, Jon, there’s a wee bit of NSFW language in the video.
I just went to Amazon this morning and bought Arianna’s book. It looks to be a very interesting read!

I am going to add this book to my Christmas wish list. I enjoyed the Daily Show interview last night. This behind-the-scenes video is great, too!

I did think of NFZ with all that talk of blogs. blogs are interesting to me because there are so many excellent ones, but I follow so few of them, and I don’t know why. even on topics I really care about, blogs just don’t hold my attention very well. you might say “tiger, you comment here all the time,” but I was aware of and ignored NFZ for like 4 months. I’m not even sure why…
also, Arianna’s comments made me think about my silly little friends-only livejournal, and how I do put some thought into what I include there– it’s enjoyable.
(speaking of blogging, Ms I, you are on a roll today!)

leave it to Jon to remind us that the word “embed” can be made sexy.

MMm I do love these rare green room videos from the land of TDS. Always nice to see (and hear!) Jon being uncensored Jon.

I enjoyed the girl background who suddenly realised she was in shot and hid. I enjoyed the Jon, too, of course!
Mostly I had to comment because my reCaptcha is “in Rickman”.

That was great to see! I love little behind-the-scenes videos. I never think to check out the Huffington Post. I may have to start going there more often.

The ways Arianna Huffington has remade herself are amazing. Thank you Al Franken for helping to realize Ms. Huffington’s true heart. Thank you Arianna for putting it to seriously good use. :)

Well that was fun. Jon wit and wisdom is endless. As far as his blogging for HuffPo? Nice try AH but I think he needs to stay unaffiliated for the sake of TDS.

Don’t know how many of you watched TDS last night, but Jon had a very interesting point about blogging in that, contrary to Arianna’s simplification of blogging to the “first draft” mantra, blogs really run the gamut from simple and reactionary to thoughtful and deliberated (ex: TPM, Greenwald).
Jon seems to subscribe to the belief that he wants whatever he produces to be the best and the most polished as he can make it, even if it is not as immediate. Most of what gets left out from the show is not worthy to be shown at all.
Even though this is the era where we expect Extras from everything from newsmen to DVDs, I think Jon has a legitimate point in leaving out all the extra baggage.

Arianna’s book reminded me of another book about Blogging called No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog by Margaret Mason that’s been around for awhile. I’m tempted to add both to my Christmas list… I really enjoyed Arianna and Jon’s rapport, but it’s pretty clear that Jon wants to stay as far away from blogging as possible. Don’t know why…he’d be fairly good at it.
