Seriously, TSA = Keystone Kops. You’d think that the items Mr. Goldberg displayed on last night’s episode of The Colbert Report would have been enough to land anyone on the no-fly-list. You would be wrong. Check out what he posted at The Atlantic today:
Even Colbert Can’t Get Me On The No-Fly List
03 Dec 2008 12:30 pmSo I was on Colbert last night (I think you can watch it tonight at 8:30 if you’re so inclined) talking about the farce of airport security. When I flew up to New York yesterday, I filled my carry-on with various banned items, including and especially a box cutter, which I proceeded to display on national television. Colbert, among others, thought that this would most certainly get me placed on the no-fly-list, or at least earn me a thoroughly invasive pat-down. But this morning, at the security checkpoint at LaGuardia, no one seemed to have been briefed about my nefarious activities. My box cutter, along with my Osama Bin Laden T-shirt and other similar items, went undiscovered. However, an 8-ounce tube of “Bodycology Sweet Petals Body Cream,” one of the many gifts that guests of the Colbert Show receive as part of their service, was seized by agents of the federal government. Message to the TSA: I wasn’t going to use it anyway.
Amazing, isn’t it? Geez … hope you all are planning on enjoying your oh-so-comfortingly-secure holiday travels in the coming weeks.
Here’s the clip of Goldberg on The Colbert Report, in case you missed it.

I, on the other hand, had to go through security FIVE times at the Newark airport due to the fact that my husband’s laptop was still in its bag. Maybe I should have just put a boxcutter on top of it, it totally would have slipped by them then.

Given what’s happened recently in Mumbai, you’d think they’d try a little harder. Idiots.

I am supposed to take my first plane flight ever during my holiday break! I wasn’t concerned at all, but yesterday I read the chapter in Outliers (of course by recent guest Malcolm Gladwell) about plane crashes, and then I all this about the “theatrical” security. maybe I should in fact be nervous!

I find it hilarious that of all the dubious items, they singled out the one item from TCR. It’s almost as Stephen’s mischievious spirit was there.

Mr. Goldberg is somewhat witty, I really should read that article.

I really hope they improve security for the holidays. My cousin (who lives in Mumbai) will be flying in for a couple weeks, and I’d rather he didn’t have any problems! Though perhaps terrorists don’t like to pull shenanigans on international flights. I’d rather not find out!
