Operation Humble Kanye: Colbert vs Kanye iTunes update

Thanks to my many Twitter buddies (especially Colbertican), we’ve been keeping close tabs on the progress of Operation Humble Kanye. It was noted yesterday that as of showtime yesterday, Britney’s new CD “Circus” was already ahead of Kanye West’s new album, “808s & Heartbreak“, as was Akon’s new CD, “Freedom.” And, “Circus” is on the Top 10 list twice, which I find mind-boggling. It’s not that it’s bad music, it’s just that it’s on there twice. Two different versions. How very odd.

Anyway, so as of 7:50p EST, there is no change in the rankings on the iTunes Store Top 10 Albums, so it looks like the list is not updated live. We may have to wait a while until we see the results. We’ll keep you posted as news develops. Please feel free to comment if you see any new information that might explain the delay. Thanks!

EDIT:

In a bit of good news, it looks like the “A Colbert Christmas” EP is ranking #10 on iTunes Canada! Go Canucks!

EDIT II:

It’s working kids! “A Colbert Christmas” is now up to #3! It’s still being beaten by Akon and Britney Spears, but he did it! He beat Kanye! At least for now.

h/t MsInterpreted for the screencap.

I just can’t believe that the Beach Boys 40th anniversary album is beating out Stephen. I mean, sheesh.

That reminds me of the first(?) comment I ever posted here on NFZ, about the Beach Boys’ Heroes and Villains and God Only Knows.

    Go it-getters in Canada!

    PS. DB – it’s Canucks. ;)

Actually, iTune Canada currently has “A Colbert Christmas” on #9!

  4. Ms Interpreted says:

Looks like it’s #3 right now in the US – it shows up that way on the home page for Music, but not if you click through to the “Top Albums”, oddly enough.

I’m bummed that it’s not #1 (yet?), but … it’s ahead of Kanye’s album. Hee!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  5. AnnaT says:

i JUST bought it on i-tunes – and the homepage on I-tunes has a colbert christmas as the #3 with kanye falling in at #4 … so he did humble him in a way, right?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  6. viewdrix says:

Canadian screencap – Stephen’s up to number 3 here, too.

  8. tiger says:

    YES!
    Kanye has been vanquished.

(wow. I am little frightened by Stephen’s power!)

I hope all the people who downloaded it are now enjoyed the tunes! :D

BTW did y’all see Stephen at the Rockefeller Ctr. Tree lighting show in his red hat and Christmas vest hawking his DVD? I was hoping they’d let him sing but no.

    • DB says:

Actually, I was blogging and, um, I kinda missed it. I saw him at the end, but that was it. *headdesk*

      Ugh.

I’m watching for video online, though, and we’ll post it if we find it.

      • vigwig says:

He wasn’t on air long, he introduced Tony Bennett, said he “forgave him” for stealing away his emmy and held up the dvd and talked about his Christmas special for about a minute, that was it.
But he was all dressed up in Christmassy red (and white/beige down vest).

    • wildlymissingthemark says:

      i missed it too. boo-hoo.

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

I almost missed it as well! My friend was on the phone with me, suddenly stopped talking and said “[ColbertGirl27], turn on NBC right now!” She luckily had NBC playing in the background when she called me and I quickly hit my record button…but alas I have a VCR and can’t share my clip with the Zoners. I couldn’t believe I forgot about it as I had it on my calendar. My friend said he looked like a character out of Dr. Seuss! The red hat was unbearably cute.

stephen’s surged past kanye! but can we ‘mission accomplished’ if he’s not #1?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Jenny with a Y says:

Hey, if President Bush can say that the Iraq war is ‘mission accomplished,’ I think we can count this as ‘mission accomplished.’ :-)

Here’s a better screencap – iTunes finally updated its “Top Albums” page.

  13. AliceInDallas says:

I loved his red stocking cap! He was beautiful and now I think we can call it mission accomplished and he can shout out threats at Britney!!! :)

    • DB says:

And I’m sure your sudden swell in enthusiasm for Stephen has nothing to do with that smelly pair of rubber boots you’ll be receiving in the mail here very soon.

(A sincere congrats on that, btw, and I’m sure the hungry people who you are helping will be very grateful for your charity.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

Yay! A Zoner won the boots!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you! Ummm….so can you eventually share a whenigotthebootsinthemail story? You can tell us what size shoe Stephen wears so we can all send him new boots for Christmas:)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • ColbertGirl27 says:

Actually DB, could we send a joint Christmas gift to Stephen on behalf of NFZ? This may be too complicated or last minute, but I just thought I would mention it. I guess we could donate to his favorite charity which is….donorchoose.org…or the Yellow Ribbon Fund?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • DB says:

Unfortunately, that’s not something I have the time to organize right now. However, your heart is in the right place – if you’d like, obviously, you’re more than welcome to make a donation to Donors Choose, Feeding America and the Yellow Ribbon Fund in the name of the Colbert Nation.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • DB says:

Didn’t the auction say he was a size 11?

Also, I don’t know how much money you make, but I feel fairly certain he makes way more money than me and can buy his own boots. :) Better to spend your money on copies of “A Colbert Christmas” for family, friends, distant cousins, old elementary school teachers, random people on the street, etc.

    Stephen’s also made the Billboard 200 list…

  18. AliceInDallas says:

I will definitely volunteer a picture of the boots for DB to use or not. Yes, it did say that they are size 11. :)
