Fan Art: As featured on the set of “A Colbert Christmas”

Got a very cool e-mail from one of our readers today and just had to share. Here’s the e-mail from Val:

While I was watching the Christmas Special (yet again), I took notice to something familiar in the stairway. Back in April I cross-stitched a picture of Stephen and added a poem that I wrote to the top. I sent it in, and never heard anything. I guess I got lucky because they put my picture on the set of the special.

The cross-stitch finished before framing:

Just another example of how good Stephen is to the fans.

Yes, indeed, the impression that I have always gotten is that Stephen Colbert and crew is extremely appreciative of the fan art sent to the show and the support of their artistically talented fans. There have been multiple reports of pictures and art created by fans being featured in the halls of the offices, and even on the show!

Thanks for sharing this with us, Val!

  4. Congratulations, Val! That is too cool!

Now that makes me wonder about what the other things on the wall are … any other eagle eyes out there?

The only thing I spotted was the copy of I Am America on the table next to the sofa with the Colbert blanket (on the right if you face the sofa). And I thought I saw a signed, black and white picture of Mr. McFeely (from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood) on the fridge, but I can’t be sure.

But back on topic: Color me impressed, Val! That’s a beautifully executed bit o’ fan art.

neat, getting your art on TV and all! that’s really awesome!

interesting Val never got a response though. when I sent a piece of fanart, a few weeks later I got a little card thing basically being like “hello fan thx for the gift!” I appreciated it because it was the original drawing and I was glad it didn’t get lost somewhere. if it got tossed out at least it got tossed out at TCR! haha.

I love the poem, Val! And what a nice surprise it must’ve been to see your artwork on the set. I totally would’ve lost my noggin!

Haha, I like how nonchalant and non-braggy Val is about it all, just like, “shrug, I got lucky.” If it’d been me, that email would’ve been capital letters and exclamation marks GALORE.

Congratulations! Your artwork immortalized on a Colbert set, featured in the DVDs of It-Getters everywhere, and having it become a Colbert memorabilia… sigh! Celebrate thyself! ;)
