I’ve read a lot in the comments about people wondering, what exactly is the deal with Stephen Colbert and Toby Keith? Well, apparently, Mr. Keith is fully aware of the seemingly bizarre paradox of the friendship between himself and Stephen, and has dished to CMT.com about their relationship:
I consider him kind of a spoof of Bill O’Reilly,” Keith told me recently. “When people tune in, they want to see him take some senator down. They consider me to be a right-winger, anyway, because I support the troops. … But they tune in, and it pisses them off that he just supports me and doesn’t take me to task like he does everybody else. He doesn’t hammer me. … They tune in hoping he’ll take me down. But he always promotes whatever I’m hawking. He’s a good dude.
Also, there’s a very nice picture of Toby Keith linked in the CMT article. He’s a rather handsome fellow when he smiles – I don’t recollect seeing him smile much in his appearances with Colbert.
LOL – in that pic you linked to, he reminds me of those old Pepsodent ads. That’s quite a smile.

He is certainly better-looking when he smiles! Keith’s appearances on the show make me occasionally grit my teeth, but it’s nice to see that he appreciates the oddness of their friendship.
Plus he looks absolutely ridiculous in the Christmas special. Hee!

It must blow right-wingers’ minds that a left-winger can be so kind to someone who doesn’t fall perfectly in line with their brand of patriotism. It’s great to see people come together for love of music! I’m not surprised at all Stephen and Toby are friends. I find it quite sweet. And Toby obviously has a sense of humor about his public persona, so he’s a cool dude too!
