oh my gosh! now that’s like 20 times more enjoyable! he says some hilarious things and the rapport there seems so much better! the “pregnant woman” thing was great! obviously by claiming he was fake he was dropping the facade a little bit, but did they really need to edit it so he looked like he was flailing crazily the entire time!?

my favorite quote: “Dutch people, they couldn’t carve stockings out of wood.”

I agree. I actually liked the extended version better, because while he was doing the tumbling, I don’t think Stephen realized they were filming because they’d just finished doing a bit for a commercial break. Having it just shoved into the aired interview made it seem like he just randomly rolls around on the floor and does handstands all the time. I think it was just a bad editing choice.

      LOL.

“that’s what it feels like to be in Indiana” – entirely true.

OMG! That was fabulous! Thanks AmandaIvy! I can’t get enough of this. He’s such a kid at heart! Haha.

    So many great lines (paraphrasing)….

Harry Smith: Was it a virgin birth?
    Stephen: That’s very personal.

Stephen: I didn’t know I changed genders while twirling.

Harry: You should have been in the circus.
Stephen: I used to be part of the dog act.

Harry: Bob Schieffer was playing Twister on here the other day.
Stephen: Really? Isn’t he too old for that?

Today is like the best day ever – first I get Daily Show tickets, and thus a trip to America, and now all this amazing stuff is posted!

I have apparently never seen The Early Show, and with good reason. Whoever did the editing for the one that was shown, well, it was kind of crappy. The way they just walked over to the map and then immediately cut to Stephen crawling on the map was super awkward and didn’t make any sense. But when we see the extended version (Thank you, Zoners!) it all makes sense. This host made so many comments that didn’t make any sense to me, and poor Stephen even seemed a bit befuddled. “I’m pregnant!” Hah…that was great.

Who edited the version that aired?! I mean, I know it could only be a few minutes, but they had GOLD, man! There were so many things they could have used instead. At least keep the part about the DVD proceeds, for gosh sakes.

    • Coquette says:

Indeed. To quote Stephen on LKL – “Think of the children Larry”. I’m pretty sure promoting charity should never be cut on the edit-room floor.

  7. Caitlin says:

I work for my county’s school system, and there’s a couple of elementary schools I visit that have giant USA maps painted on the quad… now I won’t be able to pass them without at the very least entertaining the idea of tumbling on them… or at least laughing at the thought of Stephen playing red state/blue state twister.

PS: And why did they cut the part about charity for the clip they aired? That was mean!

    • TruthPower says:

Yeah, it did seem rather choppy and a bit confusing. They left out some of the best parts.

I think I would be tempted to go to one of those maps in the elementary schools and attempt to pinch the states to zoom in on the countries/districts.

  8. Meaculpa says:

The “I’m pregnant” part made me laugh so hard that my 3-year-old son stopped watching Super Friends long enough to come in my office and tell me to be quiet. XD

I seriously think I could be thoroughly entertained just watching Stephen write around on the floor all day.

Haha, very funny stuff! The editing for the portion that aired did seem a bit choppy, but I’m glad they posted this extended version online.

i just found the interviewer kind of stiff and non it-getting. diane sawyer has a much better sense of humor and rapport with Stephen

    He is so deliciously awkward.

  14. DB says:

I’m with the rest of you – the long cut is MUCH better than the edit. Everything makes sense when watched in context. The ending edits of the piece that aired make no sense, but they do when seen in context. I hate when the good stuff gets left on the editing room floor.

Like, you know, the IT’S FOR CHARITY!!! stuff. Jeez, people!

  15. Lucy says:

I realize they may have had to cut it down due to time restraints, but there was a lot of good stuff they could’ve used. Thanks for posting this!

I thought it was interesting that when they went to the Electoral map, the first state Stephen stepped on was South Carolina…

    So… Stephen’s pregnant. I wonder who the mother/father is. Or maybe it’s Formula 401…? :)

(wow… I got a headache just trying to figure out how that would be possible)
