they were going to sing afterward, but I had to leave and missed that. (the commercials make the breaks in TCR feel like a snap of the finger.) apparently the woman interviewer isn’t a very strong singer though. I would really like to see a video of this at some point as well!

as you might discern from his expression and attire in that still, it’s the character who is the guest.

they show some clips from the video, including one of Jon singing, another Stephen dancing, both of which were adorable and just intensify my excitement for this by like … a lot a lot!!! I still can’t watch the short little clip without laughing!

no facts are given; most of the time is spent establishing the character via show clips and such. Stephen says Jon “hides his light under a bushel” and when asked why the world needs this special (which should really go without saying imo!!) it’s because of people saying “Happy Holidays,” not unlike previous “War against Christmas” rhetoric from TCR.

Amen! I think the actual show runs for about 45 min. Take away the repetitive news on the fires and you’ve 25 min.

Gosh… i’ve got the video pulled up on my desktop but I keep having to minimize it b/c i’m at work, COME ON LUNCH BREAK! It can’t get here soon enough!

Can’t wait to watch it! :)

Stephen is such a joy. This really whets my appetite for the DVD! (As if it needed further whetting!) :D

  6. Yay! Thank you so much for posting the video!! Since I’m in England I’m really hoping all of his appearances promoting this fantastic future jewel in my DVD collection will pop up online!

I guess I really need to put my pre-order in at the US Amazon now, huh?! ;)

I’m out sick today (really!), but luckliy that gave me the chance to watch Stephen on Good Morning America which showed these great snippets before Stephen’s actual interview with my favorite one being his taking a sip from a fresh cup of coffee out of a blue GMA mug and then smiling out to TV land. Now that’s what I call a good morning!

Around 7:40, Diane Sawyer began the interview with Stephen and after seeing a clip from the special commented on Jon’s great singing ability. I loved seeing Stephen’s reaction to because both we and Stephen know who the better singer is;)

Diane asked if Stephen could stay around for a duet and he said “I’m never leaving.” They FINALLY had the duet at 8:25. Diane Sawyer and Stephen began singing ” ‘Tis the Season to Be Jolly” and David Cook joined in. Diane Sawyer seemed rather awkward and I’m not sure if David Cook joined in spontaneously or not, but I still enjoyed Stephen’s singing!

Now what I would love to know is what he did between the end of his interview and the duet. I bet the crew got a kick out of having him around.

Oh, and how can he look so chipper that early in the morning? He looked more awake than Diane Sawyer and she’s a regular!

I saw the shot of him sipping out of the GMA mug too! I literally said “OMG He’s so adorable!” out loud (I guess to my dogs?). LOL.

thank you thank you. some of us don’t have Tivo…
“High octane host” i like that. oh my word, holograms. that was just too happy. daily quota of Joy already exceeded.
and of course he’s doing the special for an Emmy…duh!!!
alright, so is there video yet of him singing (w/ Sawyer and Cook?)

  10. Eris says:

He’s a hologram! That explains why he keeps showing up in my bedroom!

searching the abc news website… i was able to find the video of them singing:
    http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=6269267
apparently they didn’t bury the tape good enough…

  13. Coquette says:

thank you D.J. that rules. what was that woman doing laundry right after the clip of Stephen dancing? was that like spaghetti cat? or is it part of the DVD? it didn’t seem like it. i assume “Stephen” will be mortified on TCR later that he got to meet Cook instead of Archuleta. as well all know he was crying about Archuleta losing…
how did those people get to be in the background and why weren’t they singing? odd…

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • dustdevil says:

I noticed the laundry lady as well, and had the same “spaghetti cat?” reaction. I’d sort of love for it to be part of the DVD, but it seemed much more low def.

      • Coquette says:

Who called it?!?! I did! I did! I felt as if Stephen was personally talking to me during the woman/laundry segment. Colbert Rapport writing job, please? *grabby hands*

  14. TruthPower says:

I almost missed that! I think I fell back asleep for about 30 minutes. Not a morning person, but hey I’ll do it for Colbert! I woke up about 5 minutes before they did the interview! This will be a wonderful week of interviews! Man that guy must have a packed schedule this week with the show and all the interviews.

  15. Argon says:

Stephen did have a good reminder that the War on Xmas starts earlier every year.

It was great to see Jon Stewart get to show off some of the talent that you rarely get to see.

  16. Caitlin says:

I caught the first segment while I was at work(nobody was around, so I was thrilled!) and my fangirlish joy over hearing Jon singing again made me spill over with giggles. The singing he did with Elmo pales in comparison. I know I am going to watch this special about a thousand times before Christmas/Chanukah this year! Holy crap, the teasing and waiting is killing me!

I especially love the boyish, angelic look in Stephen’s eyes during the whole interview. He was just so charming and adorable and he says with such puckish sincerity how he needed to save Christmas, you can’t help but believe him entirely.

  17. grey_horse27 says:

I just have to say that Stephen Colbert is one of those people who just looks fantastic in HD, which is one of the many reasons I love these appearances. They also always prompt the question “why hasn’t Comedy Central jumped onto the HD bandwagon yet?”

I know it’s in the plans, but that’s all I’ve been able to discern. I’ll share as soon as I hear.

  18. Lucy says:

Stephen was so adorable on GMA. Diane Sawyer made a good point about asking why he didn’t wear a holiday sweater for the interview. I think if he did, I’d break my TV trying to hug him. :)

I seem to remember a passage in America (The Book) that said something along the lines of how there was no valid reason why a politician should be interviewed by Diane Sawyer. I wonder if that ever came up, in this interview or when she interviewed him last year for his presidential campaign… *awkward*

I haven’t been able to watch the clip yet (why does work always get in the way?!). But I found the caption hilarious – “Stephen Colbert Let Loose.” You mean like a wild animal?

Awesome clips! I can’t wait for the special now! I’ve only seen one commercial for it — yes, one! — but now I’m psyched!

As I was watching the singing, my cat decided to come over and sit in my lap. She’s an it-getter like her mommy! (She watches “TCR” and “TDS” with me, so she probably knows Stephen’s voice.)

    “He has a beautiful voice.”

“Jon’s very talented … he hides it.”

    Aw.
