‘Washington Post’ covers Stephen Colbert’s roast

It’s … poetic.

The Late-Night Comedian Returns to Washington, and This Time the Laughs Are on Him

Stephen finally meets 'Emanuelle'

Stephen Colbert came back.

Right here to the same room where he made official Washington so cranky back in ’06. Here to the Hilton Washington ballroom, where his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner got few laughs and was panned because it skewered — not so artfully, many thought — President Bush and the media.

But here he is up on the stage. And this time, finally, Colbert is getting laughs.

“The one and only — and one is too many — Stephen Colbert!” Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington’s representative in Congress and one of Colbert’s favorite foils, declares.

. . .

“Watch out, Colbert,” she says. “Let’s see how tough you are without your writers. . . . What do we call ‘The Colbert Report’ with funnier material? ‘The Daily Show,’ sir!”

Oh, snap! Oh, I hope vids of this show up.

Oh…my…God. Rahm Emanuel kissing Stephen. Be still my little fangirl heart.

It looks like they might be hiding something. Has Geoffrey (Tad) been replaced, or does he just have competition?

        hehe
oh man no one know how badly i wanna see this, i think that pic made my heart stop =S lol

  3. Ms Interpreted says:

Truly, it’s an adorable pic. Can you imagine any man other than Stephen inspiring the kisses? I mean, think about it; if it had been Olbermann or someone getting roasted, there’s no WAY he’d have gotten a kiss; Stephen’s just too … adorable to resist.

    • Eris says:

But in what parallel universe is Perino adorable? Pretty, yes, sexy, yes, but adorable? Clearly the reporter is high. And bitter, at not getting a scoop from Colbert. I can’t remember the last time I read an article where the journalist complained about lack of access, very unprofessional.

I love Stephen so much–every night he answers questions from fans, and probably mostly the same dumb questions over and over, but he won’t talk with the Washington Post.

      • vigwig says:

re Perino, Stephen said wasn’t bothered by her ribbing as he knew she hadn’t meant anything she said for the past year and one half. LOL!!!!

I love it when the powerbrokers attempt to roast Stephen and he gives it back to them in spades. Sounds like a really fun evening.

that is a REALLY good pic. imagine having the president-elect’s chief of staff smooch all over you. i’d feel important as well.

I’m swooning at that picture, to my own dismay. I’m sorry, but… too much attractiveness and smooching in one picture for my tender heart to take.

  6. Kellyn says:

Rahm and Stephen were seated next to each other. They very touchy all night; they were really laughing a lot. Lots of manly back slaps, but, also as pictured, that little smooch (which I did see).

Haha, and there’s Stephen giant bottle of wine to himself. Hey, it was an open bar, why not take advantage.

    • wildlymissingthemark says:

this is surprising, because I thought Emanuel didn’t like Stephen (he told freshie congressman not to appear on tcr.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Kellyn says:

Rahm wanted to clear up that he didn’t tell freshman Congresspeople not to appear on TCR… he told ALL Congresspeople not to appear on TCR. I sincerely don’t think Rahm hates him. Rahm was just being politically smart and he knew that when if people would go on the show, they’d be goaded into saying stupid things. They were having a great time last night and they seemed genuinely friendly to each other. It was fun to see their interactions.

At the roast, they showed a couple clips of the memorable Better Know a Districts, like the dude who couldn’t name all the 10 Commandments and Wexler’s cocaine comments.

“where his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner got few laughs and was panned because it skewered — not so artfully, many thought — President Bush and the media.”

UH EXCUSE ME? The most lauded WHCD of our times? I smell sour grapes.

    • wildlymissingthemark says:

the MSM decided that Stephen’s speech was poorly received, despite all rational indications. once again, they fail to reflect reality due to the fact that SC so artfully “skewered” our own president, and that is frowned upon by the pro-adminstration MSM.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • mrtigger001 says:

Mmmm…not necessarily. bush gets skewered by comedians every day by the late night comedians and the MSM usually just ignores it. what made this one different was that the MSM got a good whipping as well, and when they get whipped, they always get defensive, hehehe. therefore… “bad WHCD speech!”

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • wildlymissingthemark says:

no, you’re right about that. i just meant that they sort of decide what’s what, regardless of the facts…
          that truthiness, right….:)

  8. Laaaura says:

That picture is adorable! It sounds like it was a fun evening. Oh how I wish more pictures and *fingers crossed* video will show up eventually!

  9. Lisa says:

A good comedian laughs just as hard at people making fun of him or her, as they would at other jokes and material not necessarily aimed at them. Just by looking at the main photo for this NFZ post, I can tell right away that out of everyone there, Stephen most likely laughed the loudest and the hardest. What a great night it must’ve been.

  10. istolethetv says:

Little fun fact: I don’t know if they actually knew each other, but Rahm and Stephen were at Northwestern at the same time. Rahm graduated ’85, Stephen ’86.

well, Stephen plays along with the WHCD being tough. didn’t he just have a quote saying he “has such warm and fuzzy memories” which was obviously sarcastic?

  15. ColbertFaninChicago says:

I just need to point out that Rahm Emanuel and Stephen were at Northwestern at the same time. It is possible that they have mutual friends / acquaintances from their time there. It’s a very small world there.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • wildlymissingthemark says:

regardless, they have the connection. now would Rahm ask Barack to make Stephen press secretary, puh-leeze?
