Stephen Colbert gives back with “Colbert Christmas” online charity events

A Colbert Christmas

Oh, to have those boots! Or that sweater! And I love that anyone can participate in these charitable auctions and sweepstakes with as little as $5. According to a Comedy Central press release:

NEW YORK, November 13, 2008 — By helping yourself to a “priceless piece” of Stephen Colbert you also help feed America’s hungry. The host is donating the sweater he wore and the “Stephen” and “Colbert” Christmas stockings from “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” for a PayPal/MySpace fundraising contest and sweepstakes, and he will donate his boots for an eBay Giving Works Auction. 100% of the net proceeds will benefit the charity Feeding America. Fans can log onto ColbertNation.com for full contest, sweepstakes and auction details; links to the donated items; and to view specially made videos produced by Colbert for the PayPal/MySpace fundraising contest and sweepstakes and eBay Giving Works Auction. … Colbert said of his donating boots for the eBay Giving Works Auction, “You can literally walk a mile in my shoes, which is more than I’ve ever done. I have weak ankles.”

By going to ColbertNation.com, fans have the chance to win the three donated items through PayPal/MySpace and the one donated item through an eBay Giving Works Auction:

  • “PayPal/MySpace Fundraiser Contest” – starting on Sunday, November 16 at 10:00 p.m. EST and ending on Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 p.m. EST, the person who donates the most money through the PayPal/MySpace IMPACT badge at ColbertNation.com and MySpace.com will win the sweater. Complete contest details are available at ColbertNation.com.
  • “PayPal/MySpace Fundraiser Sweepstakes” – starting on Sunday, November 16 at 10:00 p.m. and ending on Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 p.m. EST, donate ($5 minimum) through the PayPal/MySpace IMPACT badge at ColbertNation.com and MySpace.com for automatic entry into the PayPal sweepstakes. On Friday, December 5, two winners will be selected by random drawing to win one “Stephen” stocking and one “Colbert” stocking. Alternate method of entry available. Visit ColbertNation.com for full sweepstakes details.
  • “eBay Giving Works Auction” – starting on Sunday, November 23 at 10:00 p.m. EST, the boots will be on the eBay Giving Works auction block with bids accepted through Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 p.m. EST.

This sounds like so much fun! Yay for Comedy Central, and for Stephen Colbert, for taking this wonderful Christmas special and making it a charitable event. That’s the true Christmas spirit, that’s for sure.

it makes me glad that there’s one contest available for those of us who don’t have a lot of money to throw at this! 5 bucks, that’s less than what I pay for lunch half the time, and getting one of those stockings would be awesome.
of course, I know the point is to raise money for excellent causes, so it’s also good there are some other contests guaranteed to bring in the big bucks.

by the way, I cannot find any information about this on Colbertnation.com. I don’t spend oodles of time there, and I am not even sure where to look for it if it’s not on the main page. they don’t have a news section, do they? (or is it in that *weird* nation’s home thing?)

They will have something up soon I’m sure – this is a press release from Comedy Central to let us know that it’s coming. It probably won’t show up on CN.com until this weekend.
