Watch Stephen Colbert’s portrait induction on Nov. 21st

Very cool! I’m sure you all remember the happy conclusion to the saga of Stephen’s portrait (“National Treasure: Portrait of Stephen“); well, it turns out that we’ll be able to watch the induction via live stream!

Ustream is powering a live stream online of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History’s re-opening on Nov. 21, starting at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Included in the re-opening is Stephen Colbert’s portrait induction into the Smithsonian’s collection. As you know,
Colbert hosted Director Brent Glass on his show in October when Glass announced that Colbert’s portrait was going to be accepted into the Smithsonian’s collection at the National Museum of American History.

It’s sure to be an All-American day. The National Museum of American History has been closed for the past two years for remodeling.

The video stream will be available here on November 21st; stay tuned, and we’ll keep you informed of the exact time and any other details.

Until then, satisfy yourself by watching Director Brent Glass acknowledge Stephen Colbert as a National Treasure:

  1. darn, I have class then…and it would be pretty difficult to justify skipping, even to my lazy self!

sounds like it will be fun, and I’m sure the more salient portions, whatever they may be, will be recounted for those of us who are occupied at that hour!

Do you know whether or not Stephen himself will actually be attending the museum on Nov. 21st for the induction of his portrait? I am going to the opening ceremony and that would be a pleasant surprise! If it’s top secret, I understand that as well… but will just be super excited once I get there! :)

Since Stephen will be on Letterman in NYC the night beforehand (early evening), I’m guessing it would be a tight squeeze to make it to D.C. for the museum’s 8:30 a.m. re-opening. Of course, knowing Stephen, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did show up. The man never stops!

Hey ColbertGirl27… thanks for responding to my post! I also saw the post reply from the actual museum… this is very dissappointing news considering me and my mom and a friend took this coming Friday off of work to go to DC in hopes that he would show, b/c if the portrait will be there, you know he’s going to have to cut the ribbon for it! Do you guys think he would be there another day or what day the actual portrait will be there, and i’ll switch my day off work, or heck, call in sick if I have to the following week! I am in NC so it’s only a 4.5 hour drive, and totally worth every mile! ;)

  3. Just so that nobody is disappointed:
We hope that everyone will come for our grand reopening weekend Nov. 21-23. It will be spectacular. BUT…
The “Portrait of Stephen” will not be on display until the following week. Check out the museum’s web site for updates: americanhistory.si.edu

    • I’ll be there…thanks to UStream! And we’ll be checking for updates on Stephen’s portrait…and hoping it might be included in a traveling exhibition or borrowed by our local affiliate. Thank you, NMAH!
