Tonight’s show was exactly what I needed after a stressful, busy day. Wasn’t it great to see Stephen in such a giddy mood?
The highlight of the episode for me was “Stephen Colbert’s Fallback Position: Spy.” OMG! I laughed so hard during that segment, I missed some of it. The interview with Dan Savage was great, too. I especially loved Stephen’s character break after Savage made the joke about saddlebacking.
What did you think of the show? Please feel free to leave a comment or add a write-in vote for something not included in the poll.
Dan Savage was too good.
a write-in for “Boosh” as well.

I second that nominee for “Boosh!” I know Stephen probably prides in staying solidly in character, but I can’t help but love his character breaks! He was just so…. giddy at the beginning. xD
Boosh ftw!!!

hehehe the breaks made the show today! I liked him covering his face with the note cards! poor Stephen!

My favorite part as well. That was a little too much information…though Stephen did ask him to define the term!

Fabulous report Dee! How many people have two pics with Stephen?! On top of that, you have one pic with casual Stephen and one pic with formal Stephen:) I love how he came out after every segment of the screening! I can’t think of another high-profile celebrity who gives so much of himself to his fans. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to see your next pic with him;)

*blush* Sorry, I didn’t mean anything. Guess I should lug around one of those bleeping machines around with me.
Dee- that truly does sound like… a dream is a wish your heart makes? Haha, that was so sisterfudging cheesy.

The end of the spy segment was too funny. There’s an entire movie genre devoted to the stop-action heel-kick at the end, but it’s that leap — that leap that reminded me of the stupidest, most pointless movie I ever watched, The Langoliers.

Dan Savage for making Stephen laugh hard enough to cover his face. Usually he starts laughing, controls it and gets back into character real quick, which is why it’s funnier when he can’t put a lid on the laughter.
BTW – Last time I was in Sacramento I had a hard time finding anything to eat after ten at night… Only option seemed to be Denny’s or something like at – but that was at least five years ago.

The Eskimos vs. The Handicapped bit made me laugh pretty hard. So random!
And I wonder if Stephen’s ever heard of The Mighty Boosh? Probably not, but that is some grade A cross-over material.

Great show tonight! I loved the Dan Savage interview, and the Spy Museum segment was just too funny! “Is there nowhere else to conceal things on the human body?” ROTFL! But a super-giddy Stephen was the best part of all… :)

I honestly can’t choose – Boosh, Dan Savage, and the Spy Museum were all character-breakingly awesome. Great episode!

Another fabulous show. Stephen always seems very silly/giggly after a break – their recent schedule must have them all exhausted though.
They really should do a collection of all Stephen’s museum visits at some point. His skills really come together incredibly in those.

i too love stephen at museums; he does such a great job of being the complete idiot, and yet it’s such great publicity for the museum. the Smithsonian was wise wise wise, to put his picture in their collection. what i don’t understand is why most museums don’t get stephen to come to their openings — think of the publicity and crowds!

We are very proud of Mr. Johnson here in California. He did a great job on air but my vote went to Mr. Savage this time. He was much better than last time and the part about him and Mr. Johnson in the back hall was pretty funny. Mr. Savage and I seem to have a similar past of not letting people of color ‘go to waste.’ If he married Mr. Johnson they could have a hyphenated last name – Mr. & Mr. Savage-Johnson – hot.
In our land of the free I really hope that we can still enjoy the specific humor that comes from our diversity. Gay humor, Black humor, for some of us it would be Theater humor, maybe Sports humor; you know… funny stuff that may seem a bit dark but has great wit that fits. This would of course include SPY HUMOR!
mmm Savage Johnson sandwich and

It was a really tough call between Dan Savage and part 2 of the Spy Museum piece. They both were so gut-bustingly funny! I ended up voting for Dan Savage though because I love him and he caused one of the best character breaks we’ve seen in awhile.

Spy Museum all the way. All the references to the rectal gizmos had me in complete stitches. Anything that involves Stephen doing a piece outside of the studio is usually priceless and hysterical. The kid in him comes out in full force, and watching his character meander outside the studio is always a joy.

I was excited to see another Colbert Christmas promo and amused to see an ad for Toby Keith’s “Beer for Horses” immediately following it.

As a side note, Don Rickles was on Letterman last night. At one point, Letterman congratulated Rickles on his Emmy win and listed his contenders including Stephen. I hoped at this point that Rickles would go off on Stephen, but he just talked about competing with Letterman. Oh well. I hope that he drops by TCR at some point!

I LOVED the Spy Museum segment, but I was surprised they didn’t have any fun with his last name: Earnest!

i just had a thought:
Stephen could extend the fallback position segment and have him do something akin to America’s dirty jobs show, but with stephen asking stupid questions.

The whole running rectal joke had me absolutely dying. That’s classic Colbert. Plus “Boosh” killed me XDD
Ok, I had this weird sensation of deja vu as I watched last night. When Stephen said, “And that entire thing goes up your butt,” about the fake dictionary…have I heard him say that before…has someone else said that? It’s really bugging me.

Yep, it was that epic character break during the Dan Savage interview that did me in. I loved that Stephen tried to hide his whole face behind those cards because he couldn’t stop laughing.
Lots of rectal humor in that show. I don’t think I’m going to ponder whether or not that was an intentional theme…

Because I can’t say enough abou this episode and no one has mentioned these two things:
1. When the audience was still cheering Stephen in the beginning and he said “I hate to cut it off”… (pause) “…as the rabbi said,” folllowed by Stephen breaking up. So great!
2. At the end of the Johnson interview, Stephen calling Johnson “Baby Barack.” So much better than Little Barack due to the alliteration…and sounds way cuter:)

“So that whole thing goes up your butt?”
“Is that to remove the rectal kit?”
The spy segment just had me falling out of my chair in hysterics! I just could not stop laughing!
