Six Degrees: The Paley Center talks to ‘Daily Show’ writers
ByThe New York Times has a nice write-up posted of the panel discussion The Daily Show writers held at the Paley Center last week. From the New York Times:
Deep Secrets of ‘The Daily Show’By Jennifer 8. Lee AND Sewell Chan

Jon Stewart at a rehearsal for “The Daily Show” in August. (Photo: Michael Nagle for The New York Times)You’d think that hundreds of people would have better things to do on a Friday night than go to a panel discussion at a museum. But the auditorium at the Paley Center for Media was packed elbow-to-elbow for the panel discussion “Writers Speak: A Potentially Regrettable Evening with the Writers of ‘The Daily Show,’” part of the fifth annual New York Comedy Festival last week.
This was no dry forum, though. The panelists were grown-up versions of those guys who sat in the back of class making wisecracks, and the discussion was a Ping-Pong exchange of zingers, quips, one-upping and wry understatement.
Nice post! I would have liked to have seen it; here’s hoping the writers do more of these panels in the future. If you want to hear an account from one of the attendees, here are some links from TWoP poster purist: Part 1 and Part 2.
EDIT:
You might also want to check out this article about the interview on the Apiary, a most excellent comedy blog that you should be reading already if you’re not:

I’m hoping, now that Rachel Axler has left to work on the new The Office spinoff, that the Daily Show will magically happen upon a few new, talented female writers.

oh, that jennifer love hewitt interview! that was way tense. worse moment: when jon said (jokingly)that bill murray was a money loving whore for doing a garfield movie (way past when garfield was still culturally relevant), she rightly reasoned that that was equivalent to him calling her a money loving whore. This prompted him to say, “Oh not you…” and “worst host ever”… bad call by stewart… :) man… hehe. he has learned alot from that i think… he hasn’t made a misstep that big since.

Hewitt was a classic awkward interview. I also enjoy when he interviewed Tori Amos and she was apparently so bored she poured the mug of water on the floor, and the time he and “Posh Spice” had differing views of humor, like what qualified as sarcasm and whether or not it was funny to say her baby was a cyclops.
