Episode 4145 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)

Wow! Tonight’s show was so much fun! I loved everything: Un-American News, Stephen Colbert’s Fallback Position, the interview with Rachel Maddow, and Stephen’s birthday wishes to his mother. Rather than providing my long list of favorite moments, I would like to wish Mrs. Colbert a very Happy Birthday!

I thought the Spy segment was hilarious! But the happy birthday to his mom was just adorable. The “I love you” just made me melt inside.

The pig latin in the song to his mother was exceptionally adorable, I must say.

I had a hard time voting for which part of the episode I liked best!

Rachel Maddow was a great sport, giggling the whole time (I probably would’ve too…. come on, it’s Stephen Colbert), esPEcially during the times he was condemning satire in news programs. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Also, gotta love it when she let it slip that Keith Obermann was the “king of cable,” to which Colbert coolly replied:

    “I beg your pardon, ma’am.”

    xD

But srsly, many <3′s for the ending segment. I’m a toootal sucker for that, it was too cute. Did anyone else sing along??? :D I did.

Stephen said “Newfoundland” – I was born there! Okay, he said it incorrectly, and had the time zone wrong, but he said it!! Yeah!!

Lots to love tonight – loved the spy interview (looking forward to part 2), the main interview and the message to his mom. Awwww.

that is how all Americans say it that I hear, but it is my understanding that is incorrect. why must we always be so clueless and wrong when it comes to anything outside America?

Even some Canadians still occasionally mispronounce it. Try “New-fin-land” (with the last syllable rhyming with stand).

For me it’s a three-way tie between the spy segment, the Rachel Maddow interview, and the birthday wishes to his mom. <3 What a great show tonight!

I really enjoyed everything, but I’m not going to try to legitmately claim anything is better than a Christmas with to Mom ColberT.

Wow. Tonight was amazing. I shouldn’t have voted. I was completely split between Stephen in a tuxedo and his birthday wishes to his mom, but the more I think about it, I’m veering towards the latter. I’ve never seen someone show so much love for their mom on air since Dave Letterman checked in with his mom and guessed what pie she made for Thanksgiving. However, that pales in comparison to this.

Every time I try looking for a man in the real world, Stephen reels me back in. He wears a tuxedo and sings Happy Birthday (in Latin!) to his mom all in one night. Too much!!! Now there’s a role model.

And how about that blood-red silk tie?

So, I watched the show again when it aired at 1:30 am and I still haven’t decided how to vote in the poll.

In “Un-American News,” there was the French speaking and my joy over the fact that Obama was elected to be our next President.

In “Stephen Colbert’s Fallback Position,” Stephen was wearing a tux and museum segments are my very favorite things they do on TCR.

But, there was also the very sweet birthday message to Stephen’s mother at the end of the show featuring Stephen singing in Latin.

This is such a hard choice. I’m just gonna have to watch the episode again. :-)

  10. Hobnob says:

This may be considered inappropriate, and if so I apologise in advance. As I’m sure you know, the TCR website prevents us in the UK from viewing full episodes, but recently it also seems to be stopping us from viewing clips. We’re still getting the “full episode” message, but they’re putting it on individual clips too.

This is where I get cheeky! As there’s no problem (yet) watching embedded clips, would it be possible to put them in with each episode’s write-up. Otherwise, the ONLY way we’ll be able to watch them is illegal download.

Of course, if anyone has any better, less time-consuming suggestions, I’d be more than happy to hear them.

If you have a myspace or something, you can copy the embed code into your profile. Then, when you view your profile, the clips should be there as well for you to watch.

  11. The Un-American news was really great! And additional kudos for a nice color and texture of suit and tie. Grandma Colbert wins my vote of course. The best part of the Spy Museum bit was actually at the very end with his face in the barrel of the gun. Brought out a little ‘squee’ I must admit.

That spy segment was freaking amazing. It looked like so much fun for both of them.

I haven’t seen the show yet, but NFLD is where *I’m* from. Woohoo! :D

Brace yourself, Nancie. He used the term “Newfie”. ;-)

I loved the whole show but the birthday wishes to his mother was just too sweet to not vote for. Maddow was a great sport and that was a fun interview and the piece at the Spy Museum was hilarious! I’m looking forward to part 2 of that.

  14. Lisa says:

Fallback Position was awesome-tastic! Hubby and I were just there a little over a year ago, and spent upwards of 6 hours there checking out all the exhibits…and we even skipped some! I loved it when Stephen specifically asked him where he kept his medal. “I want it!” Hahaha! Can’t wait for Part II!

    Happy 88th Birthday Mom Colbert!

  15. Ann G. says:

I have to vote for the whole show. There wasn’t one bit of it that I didn’t love. The interview with Rachel Maddow was very entertaining. I like how he managed to get in the “Is Keith Olbermann crazy?” question again.

The birthday wishes to his mother were just beyond sweet, pig Latin and all. Happy birthday, Mrs. ColberT!

  16. laughing at nothing says:

I hesitate to ask this stupidly inattentive question, but was Mrs. Colbert’s birthday yesterday (on Thursday Nov 6) or was it the day before (Nov 5)? Sheepish thanks.

  17. jentaps says:

I loved the entire episode, too! I voted for Rachel, but I could have gone with the Spy segment. We were just at the International Spy museum a week before Stephen filmed there. I loved when the cool sports car screeched to a halt in front, and then Stephen gets out of the bus! Ha!
And Rachel and Stephen together were great. He’s obviously a fan of hers, and she of him. I want her shoes.
