‘A Colbert Christmas’: What’s on the DVD extras?
ByPOST UPDATED BELOW

Okay, between the ridiculously cute commercials that Comedy Central is starting to run for A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All and this article, I’m officially dying to see this.
From Blogcritics:
DVD Review: A Colbert Christmas – The Greatest Gift of All
Written by Joshua Wiebe
Published November 07, 2008A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All is a suitably bewildering, self-referential holiday special from the prince of fake news television …
The special features are paramount to this DVD working as well as it does. The option of turning off the audience laugh track is a nice touch, as are the alternate endings, three in total that are worth a viewing for a couple chuckles apiece. Also included is a Colbert video advent calendar, which provides one short comedic video for each day in December leading up to Christmas. I cheated and watched them all, and I gotta say, I’d look forward to December 2 if I were you.
. . .
Read the rest of that review, seriously. I can’t believe (yet it’s all too easy to believe) Stephen’s take on the “yule log”! This is going to be beyond brilliant.
ON EDIT: DB just sent me this link; there’s a video promo for the DVD up at Amazon now. I haven’t figured out how to embed it (yet), but watch it here. WANT!
h/t Cole for the vid link

ZOMG CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!!
You know, while I am quite an enthusiastic fan, I tend to consider myself to be rather reserved about my fandom, relatively speaking. I am a grown woman, with a career and a college degree and a tragically hip loft and a very cute husband.
But this Christmas special makes me turn 14 again and Squee with anticipation and exitement and ZOMG CHRISMAS SPECIAL FTW!!!! capital letter phrases. I cannot express how excited I am about this special. Every time something new shows up about it, I totally lose it all over again.

I’m right there with ya, DB! And I have two young children as well. It feels quite strange to get so fangirly, but I just can’t help it. “he explains that Elvis Costello is like Avril Lavigne only “instead of skateboarding he sings about people dying in shipyards” ” ROFL! I pre-ordered the DVD weeks ago through this site and I so can’t wait to find it in my mailbox. I’ll probably squee loud enough for the neighbors to become concerned.

I completely understand, DB. I have the college degree, the professional job, etc., but I am just so excited about this special, I want to jump up and down and squeal every time I hear about it.
The more I find out about it, the better it sounds to me. Just a few more weeks to go…

Every time I see a commercial for it, I physically flail. It’s becoming a medical anomaly, methinks.
But I can’t help it. The more I hear about it, the more excited about it I become. I’m already overzealously hinting that the DVD would make a great stocking stuffer.

wooooooo! gah, I’m soooo glad this is made for, as the article characterized it, “diehard fanatics” because not to be elistisg about it but I would have been quite disappointed with anything too Colbert-lite. so far, it sounds like they went into my brain and took out everything I’d love to have in a Colbert Christmas special– SINGING, absurdity, Jon Stewart, and LOTS of bonus extras! when I get the package slip in my mailbox I might squee then and there!
usually I use the TDS/TCR commercials to clean up from a day of serial cluttering or get ready for bed, but now I’m all scared I’ll miss an ad for this thing!
(oh yeah…December 2nd huh? I hope this guy didn’t just choose a random day to tease us!)

I have yet to see an ad for this thing, why don’t they show them during the 8:30 rerun? Why, Comedy Central, whyyyyyyy??? Or it could be I’ve just missed them, but I usually don’t budge from the couch during the TCR half hour.

I cannot wait for this special. omg. I seem to freak out and get ridiculously excited whenever any new news comes out about it. I have a huge grin on my face right now just thinking about the premiere of this. The amazon video was so cute!
I love love looove that it is coming out on DVD just two days later. Because I don’t know if I could wait any longer to see the glorious special features talked about in the review.

Are any of the CC commercials available and embeddable? I can still watch the videos despite being in England when they’re embedded in this site! I wanna see the cuteness!
Dude, my recaptcha was in latin! :D How appropriate! ;)

Not that I’ve been able to find so far, Fiendish_Blonde, but you can be sure that if they become available, we’ll get them posted here for you ASAP.
(Heh – ReCAPTCHA was “Ayers for”. Weird.)

“A Cold, Cold Christmas” a lonely cowboy music video sung against a blue screen depicting images of snowy mountain tops by Colbert.
Am I parsing that right? Stephen sings a melancholy song all by his lonesome with no audience laughing in the background? Cause if so… Man, this thing could not get any better.
I promised myself I’d not buy it the first day it came out so my mum would actually know for a change what to get me for Christmas, but it’s going to be way too hard to resist. *tries to resist capslock flailings*

So many shiny things! Damn it! What’s the bet this doesn’t come out in region 4 for Australia?

Well, no better time than the present to invest in a region free DVD player – or get DVD-Region-Free for your computer.

Being mature is so overrated (says this middle aged fan). And yes having been to a screening I can say in all truth, and not truthiness, that this show will turn around the absolute worst case of Christmas blues.

“Being mature is so overrated…”
Amen, sister. Capslock flailings are sometimes necessary.
And, because I haven’t spammed this thread enough, I have to add that the picture reminds me way too much of my younger brother. I have a Christmas card from him that he sent a few years ago that I swear is the exact same pose and expression, only he’s kneeling in a sled instead of standing on a table. It’s darn spooky, I tell ya.

That’s not spooky, Ann. That’s a classic younger brother pose – they are genetically predisposed to do that.
To me that’s part of the whole joy of that pick – SC’s true self shines through.

Hah, I think you’re right about the “classic younger brother pose.” It just screams “look at meeeee!” That’s what makes it so adorably funny.

Those are fabulous shots Dee! I love seeing the older woman and the young college guy simultaneously smiling towards the screen. Jon and Stephen bring together people of all generations:)
Sorry to hear there wasn’t sound (!), but glad to see they had subtitles. I don’t think anyone else has posted images from Times Square (personal or public), so I am eternally grateful for your posting them! Have fun on Tuesday! Maybe you’ll make it onto the laugh track…or maybe they’ll have four different laugh tracks on the DVD! Ha!
November 10th, 2008 at 1:34 am
You might already know this, but in case not – I think it is a screening of the Christmas special, not a taping, based on items posted in the past. I’m sure it will be lots of fun though!
