Episode 4142 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)

We did it, Zoners! We made it to the end of a long and fierce election campaign season. I’m thankful that we had The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to help us get through it all, and I’m excited about tomorrow night’s live election special.

Unfortunately, my cable went out just as Stephen was announcing the interview with Andrew Sullivan. I’ll have to watch the end of the show once the videos are available online tomorrow morning. My favorite segments tonight were “Prescott Educational Films: How to Be a Maverick” and “2008 Campaign Winners & Losers.” I loved the mindless chants. Bartlett Pears! Bartlett Pears! Bartlett Pears! Hahah!

So, what did you think of this episode? Please feel free to leave a comment or add a write-in vote for something not included in the poll.

I love Bartlett pears. I would be all over that chant.

Another fan of the pear. Poire William, a brandy made from distilled pear, is wonderful. Sipping alcohol only!

      What a year. . . ;-D

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

I loved that chant as well. Mmm…I might have Poire William to celebrate. Actually, is there an alcoholic drink with the name Stephen? There must be somewhere.

hahaha! My favorite part of the whole night. But,the interview was ab fab!

really enjoyed the main interview tonight! I mostly agree with Andrew Sullivan so of course I’m biased, but I thought he had some nice quick retorts, which, coupled with his laughter at Stephen’s absurd ideas, made him a good interviewee.
in addition, I always love when Stephen re-interprets the meaning of the audience’s applause!

for some reason I thought Stephen was looking very nice tonight as well. I am not sure. maybe his hair? I don’t exactly remember…

  3. Charlene. says:

More grapes in fruit salads all over America! It’s time for change!

    xD haha.

Can’t say that I loved the “How to Be a Maverick” (pooping cows, anyone?), but I did like the whole “just say that you are, and you are one!” Taking a note from The Little Engine That Could, I see. :D

And was it just me, or was it impressive how Stephen could immediately silence the crowd like that??

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

Stephen has an obedient mob. Maybe they rehearsed it once before…and probably wanted to be an impressive audience on the brink of the election.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Lisa says:

Yes, we are a loyal mob, aren’t we? I often like to watch Stephen’s hand signals during the course of the show, just to watch him command the audience with one gesture. It’s pretty impressive. But, we will pretty much do anything he says, so it’s not a huge surprise.

  4. DB says:

Also? The Guac censer rocked pretty hard.

    • DrMeowMix says:

I probably would have enjoyed the required Catholic masses throughout high school if they had done this for us non-Catholics in a back corner or something.

At least it seemed like the added heft made it easier for him to handle this time.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Michele says:

The Guac censer made me LOL! I voted for the Toss this time because of the message to everyone to get off their butts and get out and vote. I enjoyed the interview with Sullivan as well. Very entertaining!

Did anyone else notice the shrieking woman at the beginning of the show? I thought I heard her again later on too. My husband asked me if I was going to shriek like that when I go in January. I, uh, hope not!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • dodgerblu says:

Yeah that woman that was shrieking in the opening kind of freaked me out too! Glad I’m not the only one that noticed that :) Unfortunately, if I ever make it to a taping, I will probably be the one that can be heard over everyone else and embarass myself and whoever I’m with!

  5. mrtigger001 says:

haha, stephen’s prayer, “voting is the most important right we have. please make people vote for the candidate i want” was funny. also sadly true, hehe.

  6. bowlofpetunias says:

I fell a little bit in love with the SWC callback when the Prescott narrator said that if he said he was “a confirmed bachelor” enough it would be true. Hehehehe.

  7. ColbertGirl27 says:

It was a tie between the Prescott Film and the Bartlett Pear. There was a bit of a gross-out factor in this film, but I can’t enough of that fusion of retro and today.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  8. AArtVark says:

I don’t know if anyone else wondered who the shrieking gal (or fellow with high voice) was. She/he was very good at cutting through all the other hootin’ and hollerin’ (drop the G) by using ultra-sonic bat like pitch.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Amen! Very distracting, and impossible to ignore (much as one might try).

    • Jenny with a Y says:

I’m glad other people noticed the horrible shrieking, too! It really got on my nerves, especially during the introduction.

    • Ms Interpreted says:

Oh man, the shrieking was driving me NUTS. I almost muted the episode (gasp!), it bothered me so much.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • mrtigger001 says:

wow i thought i was the only one who was hearing things.

    • tiger says:

note to future audience (cuz you know you’re reading this) PLEASE DON’T SHRIEK. very unnecessary.

I did appreciate how Stephen tried to justify it by with the whistling and saying he didn’t know how…but that sounding very vocalized to me…

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • DB says:

I wasn’t going to say anything, but now that you mention it … :(

It was so bad I actually averted my eyes during the intro/welcome and have no idea what he did to warm up his thighs.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • jennie says:

LOL – yea, I wasn’t going to say anything either, but man was that annoying. It’s almost worth resetting the equalizer on my computer’s sound system to try to filter some of that out so I can rewatch the opening in peace… maybe just to catch the thighs?

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Lisa says:

OMG. Hubby almost muted the TV, but he’s well aware that’s forbidden when Stephen is on. But yeah, it definitely needed to be taken down a notch.

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

Maybe Mark was on a caffeine high after having too much Starbucks coffee and began shrieking for Stephen rather than putting out his usual laugh;)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Michele says:

Ha ha! I should have read all the postings before submitting mine. That shrieking was horrible and very distracting! I’m all for cheering and showing your excitement about being there but it’s a good idea to exercise some restraint.

  9. TruthPower says:

Yeah I was wondering that too. And it took a long time for the people to sit down and be quiet. Rather annoying this time. I hope the screeching was one of us though.

  10. Till says:

Mind-less chants was the funniest bit in a long time. I really cracked up at Bartlett Pears, and the explanation.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  11. I too am a great fan of the Bartlett pear but I also adore grapes. Ultimately they would both come before any type of melon and a well bred nectarine still reigns supreme.
Nec Tar Ine – Nec Tar Ine…
But I voted for ‘winners and losers’ cause it was just damn funny!

gonna be a votin in a few
