Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of ‘Colbert Report’ guests, created in the spirit of the oft-enjoyed Fantasy Colbert League. While we can’t start up the online version of the game again, we can make it so that you can get the information you need about the guests before they come on the show.
Just like you, we want to be it-getters before the interviews start. So we’ve compiled brief bios, issues or events that Stephen might bring up during the interview, and a fun Fract (Freedom Fact) to impress your fellow viewers during the commercial breaks. Read, enjoy, and see if you can anticipate how Stephen might nail each of the following guests!
Editor’s Note: As always, guests are subject to change. But this week, I hope they don’t.
Monday, 11/3: Andrew Sullivan
Andrew Sullivan is an author, political commentator, and blogger for ‘The Atlantic Monthly.’ He has been editor of ‘The New Republic,’ columnist for The New York Times, and in the early 2000s became a pioneer in blogging at ‘Time’ Magazine. He currently writes ‘The Daily Dish‘ blog for ‘Atlantic Monthly.’ A conservative, gay, practicing Roman Catholic who is not a U.S. citizen because he is HIV positive, Sullivan is often a controversial figure in the political blogosphere, and has been covering the 2008 U.S. presidential election for the past two years. He was a guest on ‘The Colbert Report’ on January 17, 2006 and January 7, 2008.
- Fract: Sullivan gives out awards on his blog named after prominent media personalities. Unfortunately, Stephen has already created the Stephen T. Colbert Award for Excellence.
Tuesday, 11/4: Live Election Night Special
It’s been two years since Stephen and Jon joined forces for the 2006 Midterm Midtacular Live Election special. Tonight’s show looks to be even more spectacular! Comedy Central is airing recent reruns of both shows all day Tuesday.
- Fract: The 2006 shows featured Dan Rather, Warren Beatty, and Annette Benning. Who do you think will be tonight’s guest(s)? Discuss.
Wednesday, 11/5: Ambassador Andrew Young
Andrew Young, close friend of the late Martin Luther King Jr., is a former Ambassador to the United Nations. He heads the Andrew Young Foundation, promoting health, education, and human rights in the United States and around the world. He previously served as a United States Congressman and as mayor of Atlanta, Georgia. An ordained minister, Young preaches and speaks around the world, frequently commenting on political issues. Ambassador Young took part in a monumental Report episode during the 2008 writers’ strike on January 22, 2008, when he joined Stephen and the Harlem Gospel Choir to sing ‘Let My People Go.’
- Fract: As Young explained on the Report, he worked behind the scenes with Stephen Colbert’s father, James Colbert, in 1969 to resolve a hospital workers’ strike in Charleston, South Carolina.
Thursday, 11/6: Rachel Maddow
MSNBC fan alert! Rachel Maddow, host of the The Rachel Maddow Show and protégé of “insane person” Keith Olbermann, has been gleefully reporting on these last crazy days of the presidential race. Maddow, a Rhodes Scholar, hosts a daily radio show of the same name on Air America and is a frequent contributor to other MSNBC political news programs.
- Fract: Maddow’s six-degrees tie to Stephen Colbert is the radio show ‘Unfiltered,’ which she hosted with Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead in 2004 and 2005.
I’ve been watching Rachel Maddow’s show a lot recently, and have been wondering why she hasn’t been on TCR. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that she will finally be on as guest! Also glad to see that Andrew Young will be on again!

I’ve thought the same thing, Laaaura! I love Rachel’s new show. I think she’s the best of the MSNBC line-up. It’ll be fun to see her go toe to toe with Stephen.

Me too Dee! I’ve rarely seen such a personal element of Stephen come into play on the show. I just loved it and look forward to seeing them together again. I hope it will be emotional and gushy…especially right after the election:)
I think that episode gave me an inkling of why Stephen is such a great man. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

How DARE you! Of COURSE it was live! Didn’t Stephen’s phone calls to Warren Beatty and Annette Bening prove that to you? :)
(Also, if you’re still in doubt … I was in the Colbert Report studio for that one, and it was *so* rockin’ awesome live. Stephen and Jon are absolute treasures.)
