Is it Thursday already? Holy cow, this week went by fast. I loved Stephen Colbert’s deconstruction of Jefferson v. Sanford in “Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger.” And oh my, iGay?! John Hodgman as Justin Long’s gay bride is just about seven levels of wrong. And apparently, “Stephen” has the same ringtone on his iPhone as I do.
Love me some JFK Conspiracy theories. And Bingo was his name … O … Bama! Baroque Obama … NO! Stupid code. We’ll be right Barack – Goddamn it!! HAHAH!
The Wilco interview was amusing, if a bit sedate – “I think my endocrine system stopped producing hormones for a sec.” I love any interview with Stephen on the stool, although I miss the overly compensating stool from the R.E.M. interview. Wilco’s performance was good, but made me feel kinda old, kinda like James Taylor’s performance made me feel really young. He totally needs to have Duran Duran or the Thompson Twins on or something so that I’ll feel like the Gen-X’er I am.

he suggested the name Geoffrey and pronounced it like SWC-style! woohoo!
I gave my vote to the interview, and not just cuz of that one line. I liked how this Tweedy guy was so chill, not all hyped up like a lot of the guests. he was still engaged though and said some clever things. I enjoyed the song as well.

I love the Geoffrey shout-out too!
I voted for the interview as well, because it felt more to me like an actual conversation rather than an interview. It was such a different tone from the normal interviews. It was almost refreshing.

I totally agree. I loved their gentle conversation, almost like they were getting together for a cup of coffee or something. Did you notice he was WristStrong too?!?
My ultimate choice had to go to DaColbert Code. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever see a new version of that sketch but it was hilarious!

Wow – he hasn’t pulled The DaColbert Code out of the toy chest for a while. It was funny to see it again.

Anyone else notice that he said, “Come on, Col-bert” after the “Audacity of Hope” round?

Although I loved The DaColbert Code and the iGAY icon on the iPhone, I voted for the Wilco performance. I LOVE Wilco! And I’m a Gen-X’ er myself. I’ve loved them for years. I enjoyed the interview with Tweedy, but he is a very low-key and shy person so there wasn’t much for “Stephen” to play off. I got a kick out of seeing “I am Trying to Break Your Balls” in the table of contents because I am Trying to Break Your Heart is one of my absolute favorite Wilco songs. :-)
Oh and Duran Duran or Thompson Twins would be a riot! I saw Duran Duran in concert when I was in high school. Twice. Wait. I saw Duran Duran twice, I wasn’t in high school twice. LOL!

That was awesome! My two favorite things – Wilco and Colbert – on the same stage! I never would have even dreamed of it. I loved how Jeff’s low-key contrasted Stephen’s always dynamic mode. This is my favorite episode! The intro when Stephen said that true Wilco fans would only listen in vinyl – priceless!

Wilco was great, but I would also like to give a shout-out (Hey!) to Stephen’s iPhone ringing after he supposedly destroyed it! LOL! I also loved all the flag pins on Stephen’s lapel when he introduced the band. :)

Just de-lurking to chime in about how great the interviews were this week. Each one had a special charm. I’m not sure if it was by design or necessity that none of the main guests this week were “political”, but it worked out really well.
recaptcha – “trial foreigners” – fun one for a Canadian to get!
