Episode 4122 – R.A.P.S. (Awesome!)

By Jenny with a Y on September 30th, 2008 ·

Wow! This was a great episode of The Colbert Report. Stephen’s reptile impression, the singing, the clip of him dancing behind Barney Frank, “Ye of Little Faith,” and Cheating Death were all hilarious, but my favorite moment came during the interview with Paul Begala when Stephen said, “Are you claiming that the Republicans don’t know how to screw anybody?” Hahaha! That was too funny.

Please feel free to discuss your thoughts about tonight’s show in the comments. You may also wish to add a write-in vote for something not included in the poll.

I always love the “Cheating Death” segments, and this one was great. Loved the prop fix with the water. Also loved the Barney Frank redux.

Notice how the audience cheered when Stephen first mentioned that the $700B Plan didn’t get approved? And then they cheered for The Word, which was a send-up of the Republican self-destruction in rejecting the bill. These two cheers were for two opposing opinions.
How clever of the writers and Stephen.

I know, huh!? His audience will cheer for anything. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat, Republican, Independant, Libertarian, or whatever because once you’re in his studio, you’re cheering for whatever comes out of that man’s mouth. Now to comment on tonights episode: I vote for the whole show! The Word was extremely clever tonight (especially with Job/finding a job. LOL!) while Cheating Death was hilarious, as always. I knew the interview was going to be a hit once Stephen announced the book’s title: “Third Term: Why George W. Bush Hearts John McCain”
Good night NFZers!

The Wørd was once again incredibly beautiful. geez, these writers keep bringing it, don’t they?

The Wørd also indirectly points out the strange schizophrenia of support for this bill. on the one hand, supporting the bill is saving wall street and the subprime lenders for being reckless and leaving taxpayers with the bill.

on the other hand not supporting it is clinging to the same extreme free-market ideology that made the bill a necessity in the first place, and it’s essentially letting Rome burn.

Only complete genius (or sheer idiocy) could created such a beautiful quagmire…

Had to go with Cheating Death, though the Word was a close second. Cheating Death is my absolute favorite segment.

Eye-Splosions and REO SpeedLung… LOL.

When Stephen mentioned REO Speedlung I had just been thinking about how their video “In My Dreams” once made me endlessly weepy. But I’m glad to know the psycho-analysts are wrong. ;D

hehe with the bailout! Especially with Barney Frank!! HA! I love the dancing. So funny how whatever they spin wins the most applause and cheers from the audience.

and wow, Loved the Word. The vocal range, the expression, the bullet and the clip they added in! that was really something and was soooo winning…
until i saw Cheating Death. I so love cheating death and wish we could get more of it!! loved the prop and the extended pic of Stephen driving! i love when they show him in his car. must get screen shot of that!

but the interview was just too much. i laughed so hard as i lay in bed i was literally rolling with laughter! the interview got my vote in the end.

Great show as always. I didn’t think Cheating Death was as good as it normally is. Still, that opening graphic for it makes me laugh equally hard every time. I just love how death, in an attempt to angrily clench into a fist, just flips his hand over XDD

The Wørd was awesome. Love the religious tie-in and Job/finding a Job. The Interview was priceless. I agree with Jenny that the Republicans screwing line was the highlight of the show. I love Begala. It looks like he really had fun.

that’s what I thought, too. I thought Cheating Death, as much as Iove it, wasn’t as good as it’s always been. Really happy to see it again. I giggled and applauded when I saw that it was going to be on the ep! Still love the car graphic…hehe.

Cheating Death was so good last night, because prop failures and the inevitable character breaks that go with them are always funny.

Being an economist I love when Stephen and his writers take on economic and financial issues, so last night’s Word was one of my favorites. Because there really are people who treat economic beliefs like religious beliefs the parallel drawn between the two was just perfect.

I was hoping Stephen would bring up the Atone Phone today. He has some time, though. L’shana tova everyone!

That’s Yom Kippur, not Rosh Hashanah. That’s coming up, though!
