GODDAMN IT! Don Rickles wins Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program
By
Insert some swear words here. Looks like Don Rickles won the Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program.
Well, we’re still terribly proud of Stephen Colbert and the writers for their writing win! Huzzah! We’re bringing one home, boys!

Stephen was genuinely laughing with great glee at Rickles, and I cannot wait to see them together on the Report! It’s got to happen.

well I think Stephen will have a great time with him on…
cuz he BETTER be on.
I am excited to group-hate him for a lil bit!

Seriously, this has got to stop!! Insanity!
Manilow. Bennet. And now Rickles! The category almost seems a bit whack — I mean, Colbert spends 4 days a week pretty much all year hosting, producing and writing for a show and then, somehow, competes against famous old dudes who do one-night specials? Does not compute! Twisted, twisted… I’m disappointed. >(

TOTALLY. Couldn’t agree more.

One night specials should have their own category. Yeah Harley. Colbert needs to win. This is not fair! We got alot of eye candy there. I keep thinking of that smile as he laughed at Rickles. *sigh*

Ugh! Get ready for more geezers doing TV specials in the future because they know it’s a guaranteed sentimental Emmy.

“competes against famous old dudes who do one-night specials?”
HA. I thought you meant Jon.

LOL! That could be a line on TCR. And by “could,” I mean “should.”

Then Bennett
Now Rickles!?
Well… it makes for good TV.

My other half was watching this with me and he says, “You know…Tuesday, 11:30, all we’ll hear is ‘RIIIIICKEEEEELS!’”. He’s so right too…

I can only hope that we can make some lemonade out of this one.
Stephen vs. Rickles interview on TCR. Rickles cracks at Stephen and Stephen cranks up the juice all the way.
Let’s hope (a) it happens and (b) it’s as good as it sounds on paper.

It doesn’t matter. I’m so proud of Stephen and Jon. This really is the greatest fandom in the world. I had a lot of fun tonight.

Theoretically it should be a superb match-up of whits in a Colbert-Rickles no holds barred bout royale! Looking forward to it, if it happens. Or maybe there will be a long exchange of insults through surrogates till Rickles makes it to the show. Hopefully the current political goldmine of material will allow time for it.

While I’m super psyched about TCR winning the writing award, I can’t help but be disappointed that Stephen didn’t win. I mean, I love Rickels as much as the next person, and it makes it slightly better that they sort of figured Rickles would win anyway… but STILL!!!
THE INDIGNATION! Come on, people!
(And Steve didn’t win either- HMPH.)
Though on the up side, I would so love a “Stephen” vs. Don insult off…. That would make it all worth while.

you know what? *I* dont like Rickles! There! I said it!
I dont care for Rickles, or his work and dont think he deserved an Emmy. I know its an honor to be nominated, but Stephen shouldn’t be like Susan Lucci!

I don’t like the fact you already have spoilers up! Not everybody got to watch the Emmys just now. (I did, but that’s not the point)

@SaltyJ
It was pretty much announced that this site would be printing breaking news. I’m sorry that you feel it was inappropriate. But I also know a lot of readers who were unable to watch the show were watching No Fact Zone very closely and were appreciative of our up-to-the-minute updates.

i love it.

Man, I am so looking forward to going to the taping on Tuesday. I predict a “Look Who’s Honoring Me Now!” segment about his win for Writing (with some jokes riffing off the same kind of how-does-a-pundit-need-writers jokes that came from the writer’s strike), leading directly into a much more passionate “Look Who’s Not Honoring Me Now!” segment filled with cries of “RICKLEEEEEEEES!” The previous win will then be ignored for the rest of the night (or maybe until the Emmy is placed on his mantel in a pre-end-credits segment), ignoring the award he gained, of course, in favor of being angry over the award he didn’t get.

Last year when Don Rickles was the guest on The Daily Show, and Jon ended the interview with “Buy this book!” I went out and bought it. Never did that before or since. I wasn’t a big fan of Rickles, but I liked him a lot more afterward.
Sorry, Stephen.
The Colbert Report did win an Emmy for the all-important writing category. Seriously — the writing is what garnered TCR the nominations in the first place. This first one is a group-effort Emmy, and that’s good. SC will have another chance, and when he wins we can all think of the fans of those he defeats screaming in frustration and anguish, “GAH! F#%&in’ Colbert! Why HIM??” ;D
*we now return to the scheduled annual rant*

Agreed. I also liked when Rickles and Kathy Griffin presented– I thought it was one of the best bits of the evening. Next to Jon and Stephen and Ricky Gervais and Steve Carell, of course. :)
Still, congratulations to Stephen, the writers and everyone at TCR for their well-deserved Emmy. I look forward to seeing Don Rickles on the show, I think that would be really awesome.
And after hearing Tommy Smothers’ speech and his definition of truth, (“what you get other people to believe”) I think having him on the show would be really fun, too.
Next year, Stephen! :)

I don’t know why Rickles mentioned Letterman. I wish he had mentioned Stephen in his acceptance speech. That would have gotten the ball rolling….
Suggestions as to what Rickles could have said to Stephen?

Don Rickles is as old as Methuselah. He probably doesn’t even know who Colbert is…although he’s going to find out now! :D

gah — this is awful. Stephen has totally brung it every night for three years. Every goddamn night he’s out there with his manic energy, and coming up with great jokes, often on the fly (in the interviews). It’s a travesty that he’s lost out to these one-night “specials” three years running.
