Welcome, new ‘Colbert Report’ writers Michael Koman and Opus Moreschi!

Okay, it really, really drives me nuts that I’ve been so scatterbrained since I moved earlier this month. (Well, the problem actually dates back further than that, but that’s another story.) By that, I mean I’m embarassed to admit I have no idea for how long Michael Koman and Opus Moreschi have been credited writers on The Colbert Report; I was finally awake enough to be paying attention to the credits tonight, and I saw their names. Gentlemen, congratulations on your gig, and welcome to the Colbert community!

A quick Google search tells us a little bit about these writers:

Michael Koman was formerly a writer for MADtv (1999-2001) and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. His work on Late Night earned him Emmy nominations yearly from 2002 until he left the show in 2007 to take up his metaphorical pen as the head writer on Demetri Martin’s new show (which, alas, seems to have fallen victim, at least for now, to those evil corporate overlords that drove the WGA to strike last year). The Conan of the Night page lists some of the Late Night sketches on which he worked, for those of you who might recognize his name from that show. Koman shares a taste for improv with several of his fellow writers and has appeared in a show that should now be familiar to many of our regular readers, the Upright Citizens Brigade show, “Let’s Have a Ball“.

Opus Moreschi is, in his own words, “dashingly good looking and six foot four. I don’t enjoy long walks on the beach; it’s tough on the calves.” He has worked on numerous projects, including The New Tom Green Show, ALF’s Hit Talk Show, The Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show and Lil’ Bush, to name a few. You can read several of his prior online efforts at Yomomma.com, All New Year! and Hey, It’s Opus! Opus also has a lot of YouTube presence, which our “family friendly” blog doesn’t officially know about. (But this blogger got a huge kick out of his pointing out that you can sing Green Eggs and Ham to Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man”. I’m not sure how I never knew that before, but from now on, when I hear that guitar riff, I am always going to be singing, “I – am – Sam-I-Am! I don’t wanna eat green eggs and ham …”)

Perhaps some enterprising reader can let us know if they have any other fun facts to share about these newest additions to The Colbert Report‘s awesome staff but, for now, I’ll just repeat: Congratulations, and welcome to the coolest show around!

I just noticed Opus Moreschi’s name a couple of nights ago. But we don’t get a full list of the credits every night, so…*that’s* a good excuse, eh? ;)

    Welcome aboard, guys.

Awesome, I was actually a huge fan of Opus Moreschi’s All New Year project when it was going on last year. He did one new thing every day for a year and blogged about it – like take trapese lessons or eat bug larvae or pick up strangers in a limo or get a tattoo or work out with Richard Simmons… I guess it’s over now but there’s some good stuff at http://www.allnewyear.com. That guy’s hella funny, Colbert is lucky to have him.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0
