Sigh. Here’s Mr. O’Reilly’s usual restrained and nuanced take on the MoveOn protest, including a lovely clip of Fox News bothering Rep. Robert Wexler during his non-working hours, characterization of Fox News’ critics as “vile far-left smear machines”, and this kicker: “It is not a stretch to say MoveOn is the new Klan.”
Yeah … I’m going to have to stick with Stephen’s summary of the situation over at Fox News, and between O’Reilly and Nas, in particular.
ColorofChange.org Petition — Nas responds to Bill O’Reilly like the gangsta that he is — with a petition.
EDITED TO ADD: My earlier link to the O’Reilly response went to a site using a RedLasso video clip. As I understand that RedLasso has suspended its service and its videos will likely become inactive soon (if it hasn’t happened already), here’s a different link to O’Reilly’s comments; this is a shorter clip and does not contain the footage of Rep. Wexler.
I haven’t always been a fan of everything MoveOn has done, but come on! “..the new Klan”? When was the last time neo-conservatives were institutionally discriminated against? (Don’t answer that.) It’s not like MoveOn is burning a cross on his front lawn or lynching him. Jeezy creezy!
I just hope Stephen mentions this. O’Reilly is sure giving him a lot of material this week.

Exactly. I don’t always agree with MoveOn, either, but calling them the new Klan? It’s not exactly a new kind of hyperbole from O’Reilly, but — arrrgh!!
P.S. Regarding MoveOn, there are times when Jon Stewart’s take on them really does say it all: “MoveOn.org – over 10 years of making even people who agree with you … cringe.” :)

yeah, moveon doesn’t always make the smartest moves, and i feel like they’re a little extreme. but it doesn’t make o’reilly right either.
ditto on Jon Stewart’s quote.

Constantly equating — not comparing, equating — MoveOn (and the Daily Kos, etc.) with the Nazis and the KKK is maybe the most unbelievably self-important thing O’Reilly does. He literally thinks that a little bruising to what’s probably the most resilient ego on television is on par with the methodic murder of innumerable innocent people. That’s beyond Godwin.
