Congratulations to everyone at TCR and TDS!!!
I noticed that Stephen is not competing against any music legends this year in the “Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program” category. Hopefully this will be his year. Emmy for Stephen please!

but he is competing with the don rickles in the don rickles documentary…and he is a legend, a la tony bennett and manilow.

My thoughts exactly… In fact, I’m calling it now. Don Rickles will win that…
I’m very happy to see Jon get a nod for hosting The Oscars. He did an excellent job, and I hope the Acadamy are paying attention when it comes to the question of who hosts next year… :)

Stephen is a legend….just a young one! Ugh, why does there have to be some legendary figure in this category every year? I love Don Rickles, but unlike Don, Stephen can sing and dance as well!

Fantastic news! I’m sure Jon is making some serious jokes about his oscar host nomination. Sorry to see Craig Ferguson’s name not in the mix at all…

I totally agree! Although I think if Stephen and Craig were both in the same category my head would explode.
And I’m not sure I agree re. Don Rickles being a shoe-in. He’s got the legendary status, but I think Manilow and Bennett come off as more contemporary, and that probably helped them a lot. I may be willfully deluding myself, but I seriously think Stephen’s got a chance. EMMY PLEASE!!!!!

Me, too. :-) Some of Craig’s shows this year have been outstanding. Best of luck to Stephen, though. :-)

I’m glad that Jon was nominated for his performance at the Oscars. He really should have been nominated for The Daily Show as well.
Still holding out for Stephen to win in that category this year though. He certainly deserves it.

Hi Meaculp-
Quick question-is your jon stewart gallery still up? I can’t get into it…and that makes me sad.

It’s still up. We have major problems with spam, so you have to be a member to view the gallery. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If you come on JSX or OSCLA and let me know that you’ve joined, via pm or something, I’ll validate your account.

As much as I may want see Stephen win I have a feeling Don Rickles will, which I don’t have a problem with. I like Rickles, and it would be funny to see Stephen pissed at him.

Yyyyeeeeyyy! Congratulations everyone! This year is going to be *their* year, I can feel it. If it’s not, I may swear off TV all together.
Props to Jimmy too for best direction of the Philly show w/the EdWords. Aside from The Word: Sigh, that’s probably my favorite one.

Well, technically *they* did. I’m so happy for both the Daily Show and the Report! This is going to be our year!

Wonderful news about the nominations! I love that Jon got a nomination for hosting the Oscars too. Here’s to hoping for some TCR wins this year. <3

It’s great that Jon was nominated for hosting the Oscars but I was a little disappointed that he didn’t also receive a nomination for TDS.

I hope he will win at least the “…Individual Performance…” *fingers crossed*
Does anyone know who will host the Emmy this year? I haven’t heard anything.

I’ve heard a rumor that there might not even be a host. I guess we’ll see.

I’m surprised TCR and TDS don’t have their Emmy nomiations on their websites yet.

I know they’ve put out an official press release – I’m sure they’ll have it up very soon.

I hope they win for writing. That way, in addition to Colbert finally getting a well-deserved emmy for the Report, Eric and Laura would each have a nice going away present.

Haha, I had to post a comment because the reCAPTCHA says “call Maher.” That’s right, call him and tell him that his show’s not winning an Emmy this year, because it’s TCR’s year! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Maher!

I just want to note that either way, Northwestern rules, because a) first off, there’s Stephen, ’nuff said and b) Seth Meyers, listed as head writer for SNL, is also an NU alum. Woo hoo!
Am out of here for a few weeks, so have fun everyone!

Congrats to Stephen, Jimmy and all the writers for well-deserved Emmy nominations! Also congrats to Jon– I thought he did a great job with the Oscars this year (still rooting for Stephen, though)!
You know, if Rickles wins this year, that’s gonna be one ugly feud… XD

Does anyone know which episode(s) Stephen’s “best performer” nom was based on? Or is he nominated for his perf. over the whole season? Thx
Reply
July 20th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
According to the list, Stephen’s nominated specifically for episode #4051. A quick search in NFZ’s archives shows that 4051 was the episode in Philadelphia with Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. I personally thought Stephen should’ve been nominated for an episode during his presidential run, but whatever gets him the Emmy… :)
