Six Degrees with maple syrup, and other non-American musings

To answer your first question, yes, I did just watch Rush on TCR just now. Talking smack about Harper? Teasing Mexicans? Talk about Canadian fan service. ROCK ON!

Next, I’d like to thank the regular NFZ readers that have been concerned about my welfare over the scarcity of my appearances. It’s been a scary time for me and I have a long way to go, but I’ll manage.

It’s nice to know that the Colbert Nation is spreading across the planet at a nice pace. However, sometimes your country doesn’t “get” Colbert, or carry it, via television or broadband. With the Comedy Central Motherload global embargo in full effect, I’ve been going through different sites to find a suitable stream in light of the reliability problems I and many others have had with CTV.ca. CC’s sibling channel SpikeTV was actually decent. I asked the CTV folks about my issues, and I never got a cogent response back. Thankfully, the timing of the purchase of my new notebook couldn’t have come at a better time, and CTV broadband is up and running (most of the time) on my new baby. Sadly, this seems to be the answer for Canadian residents only.

If any of you outside of the U.S. are still having problems with accessing TCR and need someone to vent at, you’re more than welcome to holler at me. I’m also trying to see if the guy who adds Chinese subtitles to The Daily Show episodes can do the same for TCR.

John Oliver

As previously mentioned, John will be appearing in the Jimmy Fallon hosted gala at Just For Laughs Toronto on July 26. If there are any tickets left, and you needed one more reason to visit the home of the hockey team from that movie with a certain announcer, feel free to drop on by.

Jason Jones and Samantha Bee

Piper’s parents have made a movie. Cooper’s Camera will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. A selection schedule will be available in the coming days.

I’m likely to make it to the Cooper’s Camera premiere along with other TIFF screenings. Perhaps I can get Madonna to go WristStrong?

TheLakeEffect, I feel your pain. The Comedy Network streaming drives me nuts. It’ll stream for less than a minute sometimes and then freeze up and won’t play any farther. Either that, or the buffering times take ages in the middle of a clip. As for CTV.ca, I’ve experienced similar frustration so I gave up with them as well. I’ve taken to running a proxy so that I can stream Hulu. It’s by far the most effective site I can find, and the quality far surpasses that of the CN, CC, or CTV. This is unfortunately the only way I can watch TDS or TCR, as I’m already long in bed by the time they air. The CN/CTV need to figure themselves out.

TheLakeEffect: I’m glad to hear you’re alright and best wishes to you in overcoming whatever obstacles lay ahead.

I was wondering if Samantha had had the baby yet…what a cute name too. Thanks for the 411!

FYI, Piper is the daughter Sam and Jason had a while back (I forget how old she is now). I’m not sure whether they’ve yet had the new baby; I kind of think Jon would have congratulated them already if so, but I’m just guessing.

Piper Bee-Jones (or PBnJ as Sam and Jason call her) was born in January of 2006, so, 2 1/2 years old. Seems like yesterday, doesn’t it?

      Thanks.

They announced the pregnancy back in January, and they’re keeping any estimated due date secret. So I’ll say it now – Samantha is going to give birth at the Toronto International Film Festival. I know my camera will be ready!
