I have a lot of Stephen Colbert goodies on my iPhone, but one of my very favorite things on my iPhone is my “The Girl Is Mine” MP3. It still makes me happy – I could watch the video and listen to the song over and over. And I have.
This episode has a ton of other goodies, like a ‘Cheating Death’ segment (“Side effects on Vaxator may include lactose addiction, X-ray hearing, and prolonged erections, but… not where you’d hope.”), and an explanation for the phrase “PRESIDENT BUSH HAVE A HOT DOG LUNCH WITH ME” in the intro.
Videos after the cut!
I guess that I’m enough of a NFZ veteran to have seen this more recent episode, but, like DB, I never tire of watching and/or listening to “The Girl Is Mine.” I feel this music segment really showcased Stephen’s singing ability more than any other up to this point.
I talked to my friend a few days after the airing of this episode and just casually said “Hey, I heard these two guys sing this song recently. Tell me what you think.” She was very impressed by both singers and assumed both were professionals. Then I revealed that one was Stephen Colbert and she was doubly impressed:)
On a more emotional note, every time I hear Stephen sing this song, it tugs at my heartstrings because I wish I could be his girl. I know that sounded cheesy, but I feel comfortable telling you zoners. Note: Song also brings me joy.

I initially didn’t catch the Paul McCartney / MJ reference with Stephen’s clothes so when I first saw the episode when it aired I was thinking “Well that outfit seems random…” especially the red converse. :p
I have this whole episode on my ipod. I loved the interview too with John Legend’s “prom king” comment.

I was at this show. I had been trying to get to Colbert taping for about 6 months and had originally intended to go just after the writer’s strike deadline. Needless to say I was bummed.
It all ended up great though as I got to sit in front of stephen’s desk for the taping (2nd row next to the walk way in the middle of the seats) It was awesome to see Legend in that small studio and making it a Thursday recording was even better.
And for the record the audience gave Colbert a standing ovation and it was returned in the beginning of the show.
Geek note: I also touched the big C desk and the interview desk on the way out.

oh yeah and if you listen to the show closely there was a guy (He was in charge of the interns and everyone was checking in with him, he had glasses) that laughs after, well after every joke. He went HA HA, HA in real weird way after some jokes. He was standing next to me during the 1st segment. It was kinda annoying.

I have this loaded on my iphone, and I always sing along. I still cant nail all of the notes, but I’m working toward it.
Maybe this is me, but I kinda wish the one lyric “cause she says I blow her mind” didnt get a laugh, and rather the “I’m a lover not a fighter” got some applause, since that is (supposed to be, I guess) the famous line from the song.
Still, great episode.
