Hope you all are enjoying yourselves on this glorious Fourth. In honor of the day, OK! Magazine has asked certain celebrities to share their memories of their best Independence Days ever and, of course, no list can be complete without an entry on Stephen:

Stephen Colbert tells me, “I grew up in South Carolina, so it all has to do with fireworks as a child. All fireworks are legal in South Carolina. I like blowing things up.”
. . .
I like blowing things up too. :D

It was illegal to buy fireworks in GA, where I grew up, so my neighbors drove to SC every year to stock up on fireworks (not just for July 4th but to use year round). Thank goodness they were available to buy in SC because I really like watching people blow things up.

I remember one summer when I was living in Illinois, where fireworks were illegal, that some friends of mine and I drove across the border to Indiana. We brought a bunch of fireworks back and were having a grand ol’ time shooting them off. Well, until we had to run from the cops (literally).
Heh … oops.

The fireworks that were shot off in people’s back yards tonight before the *actual* fireworks were held in town were almost as good. Of course, the smoke bombs just made the very heavy humid air smell badly, but the finale made up for it. Despite the rain, they pulled through and shot ‘em off. Props to Milltown, NJ!

Here in Gaysreal, aka Massachusetts, fireworks are illegal. But they make up for it because every tiny town has a massive, massive fireworks display, trying to outdo the Boston Harbor shindig.
Took the kids last night, it was so fun, they’re like right in your face and big and loud and wonderful.
