Epsiode 4086 (6/26/2008)

By DB on June 27th, 2008 ·

Ok, the admin side of the site is acting wonky, so I’ll get the full guide up tomorrow. But …

  • Yay for Wigfield reference!
  • Sadness for the departure of Laura Krafft

Feel free to comment about the episode here.

I think there was a Taxi Driver reference at the end there. “Someday a real rain will come,” etc…

Yes, meaculpa, that was definitely lifted from “Taxi Driver”!

so those WERE Wigfield names! I couldn’t remember exactly, since I listened to the audiobook a few months ago. I did pause (mentally, as Stephen waits for no girl) and realized that I had surely heard those names from that voice before, and that there was a certain Wigfieldy tinge to this memory.

thanks, zone of no facts, for helping me to know what I know!

I STILL don’t know what names. When did he say any Wigfield names? I haven’t read/listened to the book in a year, so I’m sure they’ve slipped my increasingly feeble mind.

It was the stripper names – Shy-anne and Ginger Snaps. XD I love recycled Wigfield jokes!

Okay, the idea of Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton “packing heat” is the first reason I’ve had to smile about the Heller decision. Thanks for that, Colbert Report.

That Stephen called Rep. Wexler a flip-flopper for not repeating his “fun thing to do” line is delicious. I still wish either TDS or TCR had been able to tackle the FISA meltdown, but I guess there really isn’t much to laugh at there. Way to capitulate, congressional Dems (with the exception of Sens. Dodd, Feingold, and a *very* few others).

I’m bummed for my own sake at the prospect of two dark weeks, but here’s hoping everyone has a restful and enjoyable break. Lord knows they’ve earned it.

I would just like to say that I live in Boca Raton, and I *was* too awake!

Great episode last night!

Now we know what really happened to Stephen’s face. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton shot him. hahaha! That is my favorite of all the explanations Stephen has given for his injuries. At least he wil have Sweetness the gun around to protect him the next time he goes to D.C.

I loved the character break last night. For a minute, I wondered what language Stephen was speaking in. I also thought it was funny during the interview segment when Stephen started laughing about what he was going to have Wexler repeat back to him.

I am so going to miss the show these next two weeks but everyone at the Report certainly deserves the time off.

I love the idea of eleanor holmes norton shooting him ,that is hilarious!! A duel!! Though i think he would be too embarassed to tell us he lost, she would just turn up mysteriously on the ‘dead to me’ board [or maybe just 'on notice' cos` she didnt kill him too fataly]

I’ve missed a few episodes. What’s the deal with Stephen’s face again?

Two weeks sounds like a long, long time… That’s half a month of NO Report. *goes into fetal position*

I hope Avery logs Stephen and his sweetness’ (as well as Colonel Cuddles now too, apparently) exploits in Washington. I take comfort in the fact that Stephen and I both like Sweetness and its comedic possibilities. :)

I wonder if losing Laura Krafft would shave the last remnant of feminism from Colbert? She sounds like such a major contributor, too.

Did anyone get the feeling of everyone goofing off because they’re about to take a break? :D

Re: Laura Krafft’s departure,

I very much doubt it. Stephen himself certainly doesn’t seem to be anti-feminist, from what we’ve been able to see, and I would be surprised if his other writers were. And if you’re looking purely at the number of women on his writing staff, well, Meredith Scardino and Allison Silverman (exec. producer!) are still there. I’m not saying I wouldn’t love to see more women on the writing staffs for comedy shows in general, but that’s a whole different ball of wax.

Everything I’ve heard about Laura suggests that she’s extremely funny and an all around great person; as such, I’m sure she’ll be missed. But I’m hoping for only good things for her, and I have nothing but appreciation for her contributions to the show so far.

I haven’t seen the episode yet, but I’m truly sad to learn of Laura Krafft’s departure. I’ve seen her do improv at UCB several times, and she’s incredibly funny. I’ll miss her contributions to the show, but I wish her well in the future.

*sigh* Two full weeks of NO Report. Considering I have plans to practically do nothing during their off time, I think this one’ll be a toughie. But, they all deserve a nice long break. So, enjoy everyone! We’ll be thinking of you…and counting the minutes until you return to us.

As much as I love Congressman Wexler, how could could he confuse BKAD with Get To Know a District in his book?! Considering the fact that he received the Colbert Bump, he really should have taken the time to ensure that was correct. Still love him, but disappointed about that.
