Rumors swirling about Stephen Colbert and his face injury
ByOur friends over at Videogum have dished, quietly, that it’s possible that the face violence may have occurred on a boat. Or, you know, not.
But I think the speculation is much more fun than the truth, don’t you? According to someone in the audience, Stephen Colbert said during today’s pre-show Q&A that it was bad clams that were so bad they were breaking out of his face. Then he said that he had a bad headache and his son hit him in the head with a sword and his daughter arose out of it, referencing the creation of Athena I believe.
I don’t care how it happened, as long as his face gets better soon.

I don’t care how it happened. I just want Stephen to get better and come out with a FaceStrong nose ring post haste. :)

Dude, I would so wear one of those. Perhaps one with a red bead or something?

It happened while he was playing King Arthur in Spamalot?

I am still curious as to how it actually happened.
Since he’s bringing this much attention to the injury, I wonder if he will reveal what really happened as he did when he broke his wrist.
Will Smith tried to pull the truth out of him, but to no avail.
If Stephen doesn’t want to share, I understand. Just sayin:)
I’m enjoying all the ways that “Stephen” could have hurt his face.

I think the injury is real, but now he’s trying to milk it, and turn it into something fun for his show, I think he wants all the attention and is trying to get all the speculation, cus this is what his show is known for: creating hype around a seemingly irrelevant subject…
But you know, it’s working, cus I’m hooked !!

I agree; I just hope he gets better soon. I was thinking how he’s doing an amazing job in general about keeping his private life, well, private. I respect Stephen for many reasons, that being one of them.
And the Athena reference…how cute! :3 What a sweet way to refer to his daughter!

I love the scenarios that Stephen has been offering up on the show. The melon face smashing and Cirque de Soleil jokes were hilarious. I am looking foward to more face related segments. I have also been enjoying the fake but amusing speculations many zoners have offered up.
As I said in an earlier thread, out of respect for Stephen’s privacy, I have been uncomfortable with the rumors and speculations about what actually caused Stephen’s injuries. It seems clear to me that we will probably never know exactly how Stephen was injured. The important thing is that he feel better soon. I can’t stand to think of him being in physical pain.

I heard that Stephen’s inner insect is breaking through in reaction to a spider being named after Neil Young

The fact that neither Stephen nor “Stephen” have offered a convincing explanation as to what happened leads me to believe that it was something personal and/or embarrassing.
So, new theory: Stephen got hurt while he and Tad the Building Manager were “wrestling.” That’s the theory I’m going with, or at least the one that will be playing in my head for the rest of the day… ;)

Well, unlike his wrist injury there does not seem to be a video of the injury occuring.
So, I think he should make up how it happened and do a very dramatic soap opera-ish little movie “Stephen” style showing what happened and he can come out looking like a hero or something.

You should put a face cast or a band-aid on the Stephen picture in the banner until he gets healed. XD
Personaly speculation: His Nicaraguan bookie finally got to him.

He was lifting weights with his 9 year old, and the barbell fell on his face. Not so young and strong now, are ya Stephen!?

Have you seen the interview on Letterman where he actually talks about working out with his son because his son was worried that he (Stephen) was too weak? If you haven’t seen it, the fact that you mentioned this is really funny.

like from that late night show story (can’t recall which), where his son has to say “daddy is young and strong!” I thought that was very cute.
this facial conundrum is fun to play with, I have to admit. since it looks like everything is healing well I don’t feel guilty!

well.
we’ll probably never know.
but I loved last night’s explanation.
makes total sense.
Hope the stitches heal fast though.
I remember making up a story because I did a faceplant into a coffee table with my glasses on and it was really embarrasing.
I had these really deep marks on my face where the bottoms of my glasses were for like 2 weeks.
and it hurt really badly.

Telling us what happened would give too many clues about his confidential spy mission.
We should all just be grateful his sturdy face stands between us and mysterious, lurking doom. DOOM.

I love the spy mission part. Maybe the story was something like, “secret gadget backfires on Control agent 24 (Stephen Colbert)”.

Our poor Stephen is such a klutz. What, is he ten years old? I half expect him to arrive at work with scrapes on his knees and ant bites on his feet.
*gives Stephen healing kisses*

According to a source close to Colbert, he was on a boating trip with his children, and while he was playing with his kids, one of them got a bit rough, and accidentally slammed him in the face.

He mentioned boats a number of times on last night’s show. I half expected him to mention something about injuring his face on a boat.

Thanks so much for this amazing story with accompanying pictures! I love your purple hair…and it makes me want to go out and dye my hair purple even though I’ve been wary of dying my hair crazy colors in the past:)
Great pictures with Stephen. You look so pretty and he looks so sharp in his suit! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I never can get enough of these behind-the-scenes stories.
By the way, I’m sure Stephen was THRILLED to received that Nixon medallion:)

Looking at the injury it seems like he was wearing his glasses. I would guess impact with a car airbag…
