NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, a widely-speculated potential candidate for mayor (despite his repeated claims of disinterest), will be honored tomorrow at a benefit gala hosted by the Partnership for Public Service, a group that aims to transform the federal government by “inspiring a new generation to serve.”

Stephen Colbert is the master of ceremonies for the event, which will be held at Cipriani. Sen. Joe Lieberman, Sen. John McCain, and former Sen. Fred Thompson are honorary chairs, along with Paul Volcker and John Whitehead.

I have to admit, I’m hoping we hear more about this not only because of Stephen’s involvement, but because I’m really quite curious as to what “festive” attire looks like.

Stephen’s really making the rounds lately.
I’m loving that he’s doing more public stuff.
Hope it doesn’t tire him out too much though.
I don’t know about you guys, but it tires me out to be at a party and to just smile all the time.
Hopefully, like mentioned, we can see his “festive attire.”
    I’m thinking tux?
every woman’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man :P

    Thanks for posting!

Haha. I’m with you Lauren, but Stephen does what he does for a reason:) By the way, he has one fabulous smile—be it fake or genuine.

He does have a great smile. And he seems like he really enjoys what he does, so kudos to him. :)

Wouldn’t it be great if Stephen had a dialogue with McCain about the green screen challenge?

Yes! I wonder if McCain would come out on the show and stand in front of a green screen! Don’t think it would happen, but you never know…

    from bluesuitmom.com:

Festive attire includes many options… An invitation requesting “festive” attire primarily means that the hosts want the event to have a holiday party atmosphere, including the guests’ clothing. However, they are clearly saying do not wear formal (black tie) attire, nor are they even suggesting typical cocktail wear. Then on the other extreme, they are requesting that you not wear overly casual attire, such as jeans. And lastly, it suggests a level beyond your normal workplace apparel.

Literally, yes. But I want to see how that’s reflected in the attendees’ wardrobe choices, because I think there’s some fun to be had there.

What time do they tape the Report? This thing is set to start at 6:30/7:30

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

Hmmm….as Master of Ceremonies, Stephen would have to be there the whole time.

Might they do the taping earlier for that particular day? That wouldn’t seem fair to the TCR audience though. Or….maybe this event will just count as the show! Haha. No. Probably not.

        hmm…
        never thought of that.
        good point!
I wonder what they’re going to do about it.

To answer your question, I think Stephen would be taping/finishing between 6:30 and 7:30.
