Pulp McCain: An Answer to the Stephen Colbert’s Make McCain Exciting Challenge

By DB on June 14th, 2008 ·

I don’t know if they could ever get away with playing this video on The Colbert Report. But, I gotta admit, they found a way to make McCain interesting. Thanks, geoffgresh, for a fantastic entry!

Warning: Due to the fact that it contains, well, Samuel L. Jackson, this video is Not Safe For Work (NSFW).

Perfect! I loved it! xD The ending was spectacular.

This makes me wish I had actually paid attention during the editing class where we talked about how to do projects like this. Too bad I was so burnt out at the time that I simply didn’t care xD

You guys are really too kind. Oddly enough, when I was putting it together I was thinking it wouldn’t make it because a) it uses a lot of copyrighted material and b) features a bit of dirty talk. Then my friend pointed out that I made a video featuring a gun being pointed at a presidential candidate. Oops.

Well I guess I’ll have to make the other version I had thought of, with a scene from the Big Lebowski. More cursing, less guns.

That was my concern – the cursing can be edited out, but it is one long copyright violation. They show clips from movies all the time, though, so it might be simple enough for them to get the rights to show it.

But the combination of the guns, the cussing, and the fact that you managed to make John McCain talk to Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta made this absolutely hysterical.

Which is why I wanted to feature it here – if it doesn’t make it on the show, it’s not because it’s not the most entertaining video I’ve seen yet.

I thought that, too (about pointing the gun at a candidate), but … it’s a Pulp Fiction spoof! So, yeah, there’s that moment of “Oops!”, but it’s easy to overlook because that’s clearly not how you intended it. And it’s just freakin’ funny.

Again, well done!

Hey, Geoff, I saw on your blog (or whatever tumblr is — meet this site’s resident Luddite) that the show contacted you about this video — congratulations!

That’s absolutely wonderful; what a high!

Great, great job; and thanks again for the laugh.

Thanks a lot, guys. I won’t lie and say I didn’t jump up and down when I got that email. I think I’m gonna frame it. :P

They didn’t play any of the green screen videos last night, but I don’t know what their schedule for these is. If I remember correctly, they did seem to space out the segments last time for the Star Wars challenge. Maybe they’re waiting to get together a few they really like before they air them. I just hope mine doesn’t get disqualified because of the, ahem, multiple legal complications. :)
