Hee! Guess who’s reportedly going to make another appearance on The Colbert Report on August 4th? Yep, that would be The Apples in Stereo (all of them this time!), whose front man Robert Schneider wrote the ridiculously catchy “Stephen, Stephen”. From MySpace News (internal links omitted):
The Apples in Stereo plot summer tour, Colbert return
June 6th, 2008Elephant 6 superstars and Lexington heroes the Apples in Stereo are planning a summer tour that takes them from the bluegrass to the Pitchfork Music Festival and all the way up to New York for their first full-band performance on the Colbert Report. Along the way they’ll be joined by Big Fresh, Poison Control Center and Earlimart.
. . .
Longtime Apples or Colbert fans might recall that Robert has already made an appearance on the show as part of the Colbert vs Decemberists “Guitarmageddon.” The song “Stephen, Stephen” was a huge hit and made it onto their rarities compilation. In an interview he and I did last year, he explained that “it’s kind of psychedelic to write a song about a tv host.”
. . .
Watch Robert Schneider debut his ode to Stephen here:
Aww hell, that song is gonna be in my head now for the whole weekend! :O

The Apples in Stereo are signed to Elijah Wood’s record label, and there is a little part of me that really hopes he shows up. Or something. Nevermind. :)

They’re also closely associated with Neutral Milk Hotel.

Awesome! I love the Apples in Stereo – there was an offer a couple months ago to preorder their rarities album on limited-print vinyl and I was soooo tempted to do so, just so I could have “Stephen, Stephen” on vinyl. Seriously, how cool would that have been?
… I don’t remember why I didn’t. I would have even gotten a free mp3 version of the album. Now I’m sad.
(also, looking at the linked article: WHOO they’re coming here!)

I’m glad Apples In Stereo are coming back on the show. Maybe now I can think of them without thinking of Eliot Spitzer (ew).

outstanding
I very much enjoyed Robert Schneider’s visit to the Report, so much so that I went out and bought their newest album, New Magnetic Wonder. And it turns out that I also really enjoy their music. I also ordered their new compilation, Electronic Project For Musicians (or something akin to that), and got a signed paper case. pretty cool.
The non-Pythagorean scale is really interesting.
I wish I was more diligent when I was younger about learning music.
I look forward to either a performance or a new *hit single* dedicated to Stephen.
