Congratulations to Stephen and to the gang at The Colbert Report for picking up nominations for the 2008 Television Critics Association Awards!
From the Montreal Gazette:
Lost and The Wire receive multiple TCA nods
Alex Strachan, Canwest News ServiceA serial thriller about castaways trapped on a desert island and a sprawling historical account of the Second World War are among the key nominations for TV’s best, as announced Tuesday by the Television Critics Association.
. . .
Stephen Colbert was a double nominee. The satirical talk-show host and comedian was nominated for individual achievement in comedy, as well as best comedy series, for The Colbert Report. Other comedy nominees include 30 Rock, The Daily Show, The Office and first-time nominee Flight of the Conchords.

Kudos to The Daily Show‘s team for their nomination, as well (and to the hilarious minds behind Flight of the Conchords, which is the only other of those shows that I’ve seen).
TV Squad has helpfully posted about the nominations, too; here’s the full list of nominees in the “Individual Achievement in Comedy” category from their post:

Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?)
Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report)
Ray Wise (Reaper). . .
Congratulations, nominees, and I’m looking forward to seeing who comes out on top this July 19th!
Great news! I hate to root against Tina Fey, but I will.
and I just want to stick in a big compliment to whomever chose the last two Daily Show Featured Videos (Winona Ryder and the Polygamy one)… I had never seen either and they were GREAT. Thank you!

Huge props to Stephen and a giant shout out to the Conchords! I absolutely adore that show. How excited was I when Kristen Schaal appeared on TDS? Very :)

Whoo! But wow, that is a tough field to beat. TDS, TCR, Office, 30 Rock, and FotC? That’s an awesome group of shows.
(as an aside: you’ve never seen 30 Rock? Oh man, my life wouldn’t be complete without that show. *loves*)

I don’t even know what time it’s on. No kidding, several times in these past few weeks, I haven’t even gotten home until after The Daily Show started. Obviously, more TV is not on my agenda. Sigh.

30 Rock is fabulous, I laugh till I hurt.

okay, kind of off topic. but last week Stephen was red from vacation, we think, and tonight he is a bright shade of fuscia. i am not sure if the studio accepts packages, but if it does we need to send him some sunscreen!

Remember when Amy Sedaris remarked on his suntan and he said he uses SPF 2? or did I dream that?

Congratulations to all the nominees! It would figure that when I was on the fence about whether or not to start watching Mad Men, I decided not to, mostly because it reminded me of my job and employers that I detested. Look where that gets ya…missing out on yet more good TV. Figures.

People at your office remind you of the characters in Mad Men?! Yikes! So sorry Lisa, unless one of them looks like Jon Hamm:)
I actually have trouble watching the show myself at times because the characters are hard to take.

Tina Fey’s comment on Jon Stewart’s “kind” of comedy still hurts like a burn mark in my mind.
Colbert winning over her would be great literal justice (or something like that). I say give Colbert the individual award and give Stewart the show award and all is right in the world.

In her defense, that comment was truncated in the original Readers’ Digest and taken very much out of context by pretty much everyone else who ran with the story, as later articles on the kerfuffle indicated. And even some Daily Show members (both past and present) have complained about that kind of laughter and stated that they vastly prefer getting laughs that aren’t ideology-based.
She is still very much an it-getter, in my book.

Tina Fey or The Daily Show (and its alum). Pick a side, we’re at war!
(No we’re not, but it’s fun to channel Stephen, sorry.) That was a good defense tho, MS.

Colbert vs. the Conchords? I can’t possibly choose. I saw the Conchords in concert a few weeks ago and they totally rocked the party, but I am a loyal member of the Colbert Nation…
I call for an amazing collaboration.
