The Episode Guide for Monday’s show is ‘in progress’, but Editor & Publisher was quick on the mark with quotes from ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report’ about Scott McClellan:

Scott McClellan guested on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart on Monday night, but the best lines of the night came a few minutes later from Stephen Colbert.
He opened his “Colbert Report” by asking why McClellan was so upset that reporters were not doing their jobs in the run-up to the Iraq war. “What is McClellan complaining about?” he asked. “They were doing HIS job!”
…
A few hours before that, McClellan endured getting shouted at by Bill O’Reilly on Fox News for allegedly helping those who hate America.

Props to Jon for not holding back at all during this interview and calling Scott out on a few things. If you can’t take the heat, don’t write the book, dude.

I agree, Lisa. Incredible props to Jon for not only not holding back, but for remaining civil. Yes, he got some shots in. Yes, he pushed his points. But Jon has an amazing way of not being a pushover, of trying to hold his guests accountable, of keeping things funny, without ultimately being disrespectful. And I think that’s why people who could be torn to shreds respect him and still come on the show.
It’s obviously more of a challenge and unknown when facing “Stephen”, but I think Stephen manages to pull that off in his interviews also.
It’s very rare to see it in “professional” journalists these days, and it’s a testament to both these gentlemen’s skill and character.

I think the rocking chairs at the very end helped to end the interview on a lighter note. As always, Jon’s interviewing prowess is remarkable.
