Who’s almost honoring Stephen now? Entertainment Weekly!
By
Entertainment Weekly has posted their list of the 25 Funniest People in America and Stephen Colbert ranks as … #2?! Whaaaa …? And the person to beat him? The Judd Apatow Posse. Oh, look, there’s Paul Rudd! I love that guy!
(h/t to a half-dozen people at once. Thanks for the e-mails guys!)

Other notables, which I don’t feel like editing into the post because it’s past my bedtime:
#16 Amy Sedaris (and her brother):

#12 David Cross (aka “Russ Leiber”):

#7 Trey Parker and Matt Stone (this has nothing to do with Stephen, I just have had a wicked crush on Trey Parker since 1997):

Now maybe Stephen won’t feel so intimidated by David Sedaris (16) now that EW said he’s funnier than he is. ;)

You are forgetting about Conan.

@ Gabby
I’m referring to the RL Stephen who said he was in awe of David Sedaris (and his talent) despite having known him for over 16 years. Character Stephen might be intimidated by Conan but he would never show/admit it would he?

At least it apparently took 7 people to beat him out of that one spot…

At least Stephen’s in good company — Judd Apatow et al are a scream and a half. I think they’re all exceptionally funny folks, so, congratulations Stephen!

Can you imagine what would happen if the whole Jud Apatow posse went on TCR for some kind of humor off against Stephen? That would be too funny!
This was a great list of funny people! If Stephen had come in first place, it would have been the greatest list. At least Rain and the Nintendo Wii guy didn’t qualify for this one. :-)
Congratulations to Stephen and TCR (and my other favorite funny people: Jon Stewart, Steve Carell, Amy Sedaris, David Sedaris, Ellen DeGeneres)!

I can’t even begin to imagine… I’m very pleased to see that Demetri Martin made it in there! I miss his Trendspotting segments on TDS.

Lisa, I like Demetri Martin and the Trendspotting TDS segments a lot too. I especially enjoyed the ones about credit card debt and social networking.
I just realized that I misspelled Judd Apatow in my original comment. *headdesk* Oh well. At least I spelled Stephen’s name correctly.

My first thought exactly! I immediately thought, “Ha! It took an entire ensemble to edge Stephen out!”
Cute picture, too.

an absolute honor!
P.S- Wow, A peabody, a webby,Time and EW? Now all we need is ONE Emmy…!!! (I’m sorry, make that three, please)

I love that TDS alums make up the bulk of the top 5, but I was immediately disgusted that Tina Fey was ranked a notch above the TDS team. After she dissed Jon, she has been on my “On Notice” list and now she’s officially “Dead to Me.”

I admit to being upset when I first heard her comments, but I think it’s probably something she said perhaps without thinking too clearly. I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, if only ’cause I love 30rock. Tina’s been on TDS and seemed lovely to Jon. And to be fair, she didn’t actively try to rank higher or anything- she’s not responsible for being ranked one higher in a poll.
I’m sorry for ranting; I do know how you feel. I blame the internet.

Wait, wait, wait, she dissed Jon? When did this happen?

Read all about it here:

Sure, she wasn’t responsible for EW’s list-making and it’s not like she ran a campaign, but to be realistic here, there’s absolutely no way she’s more funny than the ENTIRE TEAM of TDS. This is why I am embittered.

Tina didn’t really dis Jon…
From cinemablend.com
“Apparently, Fey’s remark was taken out of context. When asked about the Daily Show comment today, she said, “That thing was edited kind of weird. I was really talking about audiences and how audiences respond weirdly to things. When I was talking I said, ‘Like you know, on Weekend Update or anything’ and that kind of went away so it seemed like I was saying something bad about those guys. I think they know that I think their show is great and would actually never be disparaging on their show.”
