Preview: Stephen Colbert in “The Love Guru”

Thanks to Zoner Fleur for tipping me off to this preview of the new Mike Myers movie “The Love Guru”, playing in theaters on June 20th. Stephen Colbert has a cameo as a hockey announcer, and can be seen oh so briefly in this clip.

Here’s an early review of Stephen’s performance, courtesy of Ain’t It Cool News (via Fanhouse):

The supporting cast basically add up to a list of extended cameos, but when it comes to the previous Myers flicks, the cameos most often were the bits that I laughed at the most. Notably, The Maple Leafs announcers are played by Jim Jim Gaffigan and Stephen Colbert, and they brought down the house. I could have watched an entire movie with Colbert’s cracked out announcer baiting Jim Gaffigan, but hopefully there’s more footage that will be released on DVD.

Yay! Jim Gaffigan AND Stephen! I heart this Pale Force meets Alpha Squad action :)

Now that I think of it, they should have a Pale Force meets Alpha Squad cartoon. That’d be classic.

I love Stephen Colbert a lot (probably too much), but I don’t think even my love for SC will overcome my desire to not see The Love Guru.

The more I hear about this movie, the more I’m wanting to see it. “Stephen’s cracked out announcer” sounds hilarious.

The idea of Stephen AND Jim Gaffigan is made of win!

Have you seen “A Great New Wonderful”? It’s not a comedy, but both of them are in it.

Oooh, I did see that movie and liked it a lot. They were both great, although I’ll admit Stephen’s speech towards the end surprised me.

I’ve never seen it, but have wanted to for a while. I’ve got to get on that.

My friend is a huge fan of Jim Gaffigan. Wait ’til I show her that our two favorite people are in a movie together! I must admit, though, the rest of the movie looks pretty painful to sit through. How much time do Stephen and Jim get in the movie? Hmmm.

I’ve seen A Great New Wonderful as well. It was an ok movie, but I felt something was missing. Maybe it was just too soon after 9/11.

      • Megan says:

I agree, it doesn’t look like either are in it long enough too actually sit through it since it does look pretty bad. Here’s to hoping that it’s either good or that Stephen and Jim are in it longer than actually expected.

I watched The Great New Wonderful with an open mind, but it was disappointingly rambling and vague (many different characters with different story lines).

The only stories worth following are Jim Gaffigan (Sandie’s Story), Stephen (David & Allison’s story), and maybe Maggie Gyllenhaal (Emme’s Story). And yes, Stephen’s speech is something to see. (I have 2 autistic children so this is something I don’t take lightly. And I thought it was great.)

How in the world did I miss the fact that Stephen AND Jim Gaffigan are both in this??? I’m SO on top of seeing this…

And I agree with the reviewer in that sometimes the endless string of cameos in some comedies do very well, and if Stephen and Jim Gaffigan are in it, I’m SO there!

There was a different preview during American Idol last night with Stephen in it also. But I haven’t found it online yet. Unless i’m totally crazy and the only one who saw it. (Which is quite possible)

Someone said they saw a commercial in Canada for The Love Guru that showed him. So, I doubt you’re totally crazy. Lol. I’ve been keeping an eye out for it, but so far it has eluded me.

yeah totally, YOUR NOT CRAZY, i’m in Canada too, and i saw it last night during American idol also…
i’m like, but how can this be???
Many fans were surprised to see that Stephen’s in this movie, its not on IMDB =s…
I tried to search, but couldn’t find it either…

It was likely a promo for the hockey contest for The Hour on CBC. I was actually considering doing a capture, but I’m still trying to figure something out for a higher quality. Anyhow, if any of you still want to win free Leafs tickets (and I know you’re out there…) http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/content/guru_contest.html

      @Melody
You are definitely not crazy! I saw the promo on AI, too. It was the first promo for the movie that I had seen with Stephen in it.

      • TruthPower says:

No you are not crazy either. I think I saw it twice yesterday. I think they were both on our local ABC station here. I think the last one where they showed Stephen was during Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t watch that but for some reason I decided to last night. It looks like he has a good cameo.

I just saw the commercial with Stephen for the first time! I was watching tv with my 10-year-old sister and she was like “Amanda! It’s Stephen Colbert!!!!” Lol. I have successfully infected her with the Colbert Bug.

  6. I was scanning through the commercials on my Tivo during American Idol on Wednesday night and thought I saw him, but figured I was just suffering from a side effect of the shows not being on this week. I knew John Oliver was in it, but I didn’t know about Stephen! :D

And Mike Myers was pretty funny during his segment on AI that night, so the movie shouldn’t be too bad. :P

  7. WildKard says:

Also quickly mention there are also cameos from John Oliver & Samantha Bee in the film (you know… that “other show” that comes on before Colbert? :)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Rissa says:

I’m not going mad after all! I was sure that was John Oliver, but I thought “Can’t be, they’d have mentioned him.”

Plus, it’s not just That Other Show any more. Since Oliver turned up in Stephen’s suitcase that one time, he’s officially allowed to exist now.
