Klassic Kolbert: Episode 3016 (2/1/2007)

By DB on May 21st, 2008 ·

*headdesk*

In the Episode Guide, we called this the “Night of a Thousand Character Breaks”. And it starts by one of my very favorite character breaks ever during the toss. Have you ever seen us use the term *headdesk*? Yeah, it’s from this. Then we have some of the most politically incorrect humor ever seen on the show with the “Racism” clip. Comedy Central didn’t have ‘The Movies That Are Destroying America’ segment up yet, but fortunately we found a copy of it. And the main reason I picked this episode was the end segment, one of my personal faves – “Most Poetic F@#king Thing I Ever Heard”.

Hey Jenny,

I actually made a comment on this video on YouTube three days ago and absolutely love it! It ties with “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin” as my favorite Stephen fanvid of all time. Thank you!

Look forward to seeing future works:)

Thanks again for these episodes! Since I haven’t seen them, for me, it’s like getting a new one… only not.

Granted, I have seen the Harriet Tubman character break before. The internal struggle you can see going on in that moment is nothing short of epic.

I loved “Little Miss Sunshine” and Steve needs to be on TCR! He’s long overdue.

And I can’t stop laughing at “The Most Poetic F#@king Thing”. I have to say that DEFINITELY beats the scene topping my list- deer frolicking through a lush green field at the end of a rainbow, seen two days before St. Patrick’s Day along the side of a South Carolina highway. True story. But you can’t beat a moth drinking the tears of sleeping Magpies.

‘the JFK airport piece’ is my absolutely fave toss. Took me two days of searching to find that one from the cc video site. When Jon loses it, you know its comedy gold. Stephen’s smirk when he takes off his glasses is so outstanding.

A close second is the animal sounds third try toss. The second viewing definitely makes it more funny, since you know that this is their third try, and so you understand why the audience is cracking up when he quotes and says “mooooo-ving” and “puurrrrr-fect”.

i wonder, was the JFK airport toss one of those 2nd or third tries as well? if there’s an audience taping report out there about that toss, i don’t know about it. in both instances (JFK airport and animal sounds tosses) jon was like “we were so close!”

This was great! One of my favorite tosses was a strike show when Jon asked Stephen – what’s for dinner?

Thanks for posting!

As much as I love the tosses as a whole, the improved tosses were the best.

I dunno, the JFK toss was pretty good…but the “Word Failure” one is still tops in my books…

Haha. If you listen closely to the beginning of the last segment, Stephen says “Pretty” and then a girl in the audience shouts out “Like you!” Good for her!

lol you know it’s done when he immediately bites his lower lip in the harriet tubman bit..

he often strokes the corners of his mouth when he’s trying to get himself back in character.. haha.

Please let me put in a desperate request for Episode 2001 01/09/2006… just in case someone has it (Comedy Central does not). I’m dying to see the entire piece with Conan shooting Stephen for his Rosa Parks remarks.

hahha…Stephen must have been sooo near cursing Jon for not holding his laughter…! Poor Stephen, after trying to control himself for soo long, he finally has to give up for Jon…Of course, for us, pure bliss!

Oh man, that is one awesome episode. I just wish it wasn’t censored. Also lol@at person who shouts ‘like you!’ after Stephen says ‘pretty’. Because they are so right.

So much there is that I love about this episode. !!! I’m glad you guys started doing this. It’s wicked fun.

Suggestion From A Bystander: Y’all should air an episode from relatively a year ago or something. Sort of like a compare/contrast, “where we were in the Colbertiverse a year ago” sort of thing. I think that’d be fun. =]

The intergalactic space train break is one of my very favorites, because it’s almost like he goes through every one of his methods to keep from laughing — biting his lip, squinting his eyes, etc. . . . and then he ends up smiling anyway. adoooorrrable
