Good morning, boys and girls.
I’ll get you an Episode Guide as soon as I can (I’m sorry, I just wasn’t up to it last night), but for now, I’m sure you’re going to want to start chiming in on this hilarious interview with Dr. Mehmet C. Oz from last night’s episode of The Colbert Report. Do try to keep the comments clean, and have fun!

Great interview.
Off topic, why is it that on some days when he runs from desk to guest table, he’s shown in 16 panels, and other days the camera just follows him? Is there a pattern to that anyone has been able to discern?

According to Stephen in an interview (I can’t remember where), there are 10 different ways to get him to the table. It seems that they just pick them at random.

I’m not sure how long we can discuss this interview and keep it family friendly, but it was absolutely hilarious. The “OMG did he just say that?” factor was through the roof.
And the “Kids, go to bed right now.” XD

Do you think he was speaking directly to his kids? I know that he allows his kids to watch his show once in awhile.
However, he probably had time after the show to come home and ensure they didn’t see any of it since the taping is done a few hours before 11:30.

It was probably more of a joke, because we know he has kids and it was sort of his way of acknowledging that “woah, this conversation’s dirty”.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I remember he had a similar response during the robot sex interview. Haha. Something like “You can bring the kids back in the room now.”

Even more than the innuendo, what cracked me up about this was seeing Stephen just barely keeping it together. Given some of his commentary on the Strangers with Candy DVDs and the like, I can’t help but imagine what his response to some of Dr. Oz’s statements would have been, had they not been on camera. It’s absolutely cracking me up.

I did too…I have to say, I do like the very polished look he has with a shorter haircut. There’s just something about him all dressed up and looking so polished and handsome in a suit that I just adore.

Yeup, I couldn’t figure out why he seemed to look even cuter than usual, then halfway through the show I realized his hair was “fluffier” than normal. The heavy hairspray look probably befits his character more, but I just love this look so much more.

OK. Now I’m only putting this out there since Stephen brought it up himself on his show and thus I assume it’s open for discussion.
I don’t know about you, but it sounds like Stephen, rather than “Stephen”, claimed five times a week. What do you think? Maybe that’s why he has such a solid marriage:)

I don’t know, Stephen seemed liked his interest was really piqued at the conversation…after all, he wanted to take some notes from the good doctor’s advice.

I didn’t get “five times a week” out of the high five… I just saw a joke about high-five-ing being stupid and funny.

Oops! I rewatched this segment and you’re right! I initially heard him say “I have five” rather than “high five.” My mistake. I guess my subsconscious just thinks Stephen Colbert is very sexy:)

This interview obviously went in a different direction that Stephen had planned but I thought it showed, once again, just how witty Stephen is and how well he thinks on his feet. I appreciate the fact that he is willing to let things get off track and just go with it. I am also impressed when anyone can discuss anything related to sex so openly, even in a humorous way.
The audience seemed a little slow to respond several times last night. I wonder what that was about.

Hehehe… I think they may have been stunned at some of the bizarre turns the interview took. I know I was. That was all kinds of crazy! The dipstick reference had me in complete stitches.

Fun interview! Dr. Oz and Colbert had a great rapport. You can tell Stephen has a soft spot for doctors.

Is this Dr. Oz’s first Colbert appearance? I was a little bummed Stephen didn’t explicitly say “come back to the show” to the Dr. but seeing how they just had fun, he’s no doubt welcome to return anytime.

When they went to commercial, it looked like Stephen to Dr. Oz that the interview was a blast. I’m sure he told him later that he was welcome back anytime.

That surprised you? Stephen’s appearances were almost all local, and Oprah films her show in Chicago. And, no offense to the all-powerful Oprah or anything, but it’s not like he needed her to bump his sales.

He could have made a satellite video appearance on Oprah. His book tour was a perfect opportunity to introduce himself to the mega-mammoth Oprah book buying audience, no offense to the Colbert bump intended ;), just more cha-ching for Stephen.

True. Still, I was hoping the petition on the I Am America site would’ve produced something pretty funny, not that the book needed more publicity. I was hoping they’d at least mention it on TCR.

Seeing Stephen and Oprah in the same room would be a funny combination. However, I’m not a big fan of Oprah and I’m not sure her show would be the right venue to promote his book.

eventually those 2 will get together somehow and it will be hilarious. but stephen is really fussy about where he takes his character outside of the studio. o’reilly was complaining that stephen wouldn’t come on his show to promote his book, apparently, which i thought was surprising.

You’re probably right. It’s only a matter of time. Just to clarify, I don’t dislike Oprah, but I’m just not a big fan and watch Stephen far more religiously:)
“Stephen” could go on her show for the purpose of claiming Oprah as his new black friend. Haha.

I loved how Stephen basically referred to NFZers when he said that French line (pic of Disneyland?) and then said “Look it up” to the camera…now of course I want an explanation. :)

Oh, about that: I don’t speak French, so I’m sure I’ll get spelling or grammar wrong here (and I welcome corrections!), but I *thought* he said, “Fête de les ours paysan” in that segment. I believe that would be a reference to the Country Bears Jamboree, not that I can guess why that would be at Euro Disney (but then, Euro Disney itself is a bit of a joke, as I understand it).

Yes, he was saying “Country Bear Jamboree” in French.
And there is an error in the grammar there, but your transcription is correct.

My favorite quote from the whole interview (besides the “High five… I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I like high fiving…”) has to be the incredulous “What do they know about sex in North Carolina?”
I know we have the research triangle and Duke University and all that, but I was surprised when he said that too. We’re often referred to as the “buckle of the Bible Belt”.

I thought that fell a little flat, like he had no where to take it. I though he could have made an “on the top” (relative to his own home state) joke there. (I hope that is FF enough…)

There is definitely NC/SC rivalry. There’s no doubt about that.
Being from NC, I gotta go with the homestate (mainly due to the fact that there just isn’t much in SC… please no one kill me…)
But, I will give him some slack, because I’ve been to Charleston and I LOVE it there. Coastal SC (where he’s from) is lovely. The rest of the state’s just kinda there and doesn’t have much going on. And rural SC kinda scares me. I thought rural NC was scary enough until the last time we drove down to Atlanta.
… and Amy Sedaris is from NC! :)

I do want it noted that I don’t want to start any trouble with any rabid South Carolina fans. I do appreciate and respect our sister to the south, and just because I think NC is better, doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.

That reCAPTCHA phrase is too eerie. What would the 22 stand for? Hmmm…there has to meaning in that number.
I’ve never been to either of the Carolinas even though I lived in nearby Virginia for most of my life! I must go to the South someday!
