ETV posts its Mother’s Day special, feat. Lorna Colbert

A huge thank you to Rob and the good folks at ETV, who have posted the special Mother’s Day episode of The Big Picture on their website. You can watch it there; they’ve got a nice link to a radio interview with Stephen (with his accent popping into evidence, y’all!) from a couple of days ago, too.

Mother’s Day Special

The Big Picture Mother’s Day Special. This tribute to mothers of famous South Carolinians includes Gov. Mark Sanford’s mother, Margaret Peyton; NFL player Richard Seymour’s mother, Deborah; actress Kristin Davis’ mother, Dorothy; and comedian Stephen Colbert’s mother, Lorna.

Television repeats will air Saturday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m.

So cute, that Lorna Colbert was “bewildered” when Stephen announced his candidacy for the office of President of the United States! That’s just adorable.

Here’s the YouTube clip of Stephen’s greeting to his mom, featured on Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday (Stephen’s full greeting was posted earlier on ETV):

Thanks so much for the great clips, Rob and ETV (and Stephen and Mrs. Lorna Colbert)!

That was really good! And I really liked the radio interview with Stephen. That’s so cool how he built his own boat like that.

That black & white photo of young Amy, Paul and Stephen — wow!
(It’s in the first segment with Lorna and is worth watching for, in case you are wondering…)

It was interesting to hear about Stephen from his mom’s point of view, but I have to say that the interviewer himself was irritating me a little bit. He didn’t seem all that interested in what he was doing, saying “Oh, well that’s good, that’s good” over and over again.

    Maybe just me?

But that picture was the cutest!

I agree. the interviewer didn’t seem that experienced. he seemed more interested in making sure all the questions and responses “flowed” or “segued” rather than listening to what the ladies actually had to say.
Mrs. C. came across as very funny, and she and the football mom were the most interesting of the group. I wish we could have heard a little more from Mrs. C, but I’ll take it.

Yeah, it seemed to me like the interviewer was trying to make sure he was fair and that he gave each woman equal time. He also seemed to want to keep things moving.

I loved Mrs. Colbert! She is such a delightful, warm woman. It’s great that she has to force herself from watching Stephen’s show too many times. :-)

I also enjoyed the football player’s mom. His story was interesting as well.

Arg! I am so frustrated. I can’t watch the video or listen to the radio interview, and it’s driving me crazy. This thing keeps popping up telling me I need to download some Windows thing, which I then do, and when I try to play the video or listen to the radio interview, it tells me that I haven’t downloaded the program. I’m going to try again later (after I’m done pulling my hair out), but if anyone knows of another site or way to listen to the radio interview or watch the video, I would love you forever. Or if anyone else is having a similar problem, maybe you could tell me how you solved it because apparently following the instructions is not working for me.

Oops! It showed up just fine once I switched to Firefox. What great interviews. I loved how understated Mrs. Colbert was when she talked about Stephen and how much she seems to get a kick out of his show.

I’m being picky, maybe, but shouldn’t it be Lorna ColberT? Or has she had an airline encounter with an astronaut also?

    • Laaaura says:

Haha, I was thinking that too about the pronunciation of her last name. I wonder if she goes with Colbert now or if she still goes with ColberT.

When I heard Stephen on the radio say that he named his boat “Evie McGee” I awwed :)

Both the radio interview with Stephen and the show with his mom were adorable!

That first link takes me to the Big Picture homepage… is that right? I can’t find a link to the radio interview on there.

    • Ms Interpreted says:

When I use that link, it takes me to The Big Picture homepage, and the Mother’s Day special is featured at the top of the page, with links to both the TV show and radio interview. Is it taking you somewhere else?

  8. awww I can’t watch it! :( I really hope someone puts it on youtube cos my pre-historic computer is cool with that site!

Thanks NFZ, Rob, and ETV for providing the video and audio clips for us.

It is obvious that Stephen still enjoys doing TCR but it was still good to hear him confirm it in the radio interview. I always like it when he discusses the unique relationship he has with us, his audience. Like he said, we feed off of each other’s fun. He is correct that we appreciate the writing on the show but we also need the excitement and energy that he brings.

If Stephen is the sixth funniest sibling in his family, can you imagine how funny the top five are? :-)

  11. ColbertFaninChicago says:

I just love how chic the mother is – she looks great and well put together for a woman of her age! I know it’s outside the bounds of NFZ, but I’d love to know what the other siblings do, what they look like, etc.!

  12. bowlofpetunias says:

I don’t remember Mrs C being on the show. From what I gather this was also an episode when he crawled on the walls? What?
[Interviewer]: Stephen climbing the walls in the studio, is that something that he was doing at the house growing up?
[Mrs C]: Oh, that was just one show, that wild show, just so funny from start to finish, one of my very favorites that he ever did.

When Lorna talks about an episode where Stephen was climbing on the walls, do you know which episode she was referring to?

My best wishes for Mother’s Day go out to Lorna Colbert, my mom and grandmother, and all moms out there. I just came upon a story of a 41-year-old woman in Arkansas pregnant with her 18th child.
