BREAKING NEWS: NASA TV webcasts Stephen Colbert interview at 10:50a EST today

By DB on May 8th, 2008 ·

We just got this tip in from Jennie:

Tune in to The Flame Trench to watch an comedian Stephen Colbert interview an astronaut.

Station flight engineer Garrett Reisman, a New Jersey native who threw out a ceremonial first pitch from the outpost prior to a New York Yankees game against the rival Boston Red Sox last month, will do a space-to-ground interview with Colbert at 10:50 a.m. EDT today. The interview, which will be webcast live here in The Flame Trench, will be aired on “The Colbert Report” at 11:30 p.m. EDT that night.

I’m at work and can’t watch it, so if anyone out there can catch it, please post spoilers in the comments.

And if you want to avoid spoilers, um, don’t go to the comments. :)

EDITED TO ADD: If you go here, you can watch the interview at the “Media Channel” portion of the page (thanks for the hint, LaColberta!). – Ms I

I know — loved it!!

I don’t remember it exactly, but I think it went something like this:

“Do you ever catch another astronaut looking at you as if he’s picturing a giant turkey leg?”

I was waiting for him to suggest sending Jon up there.

Of course, you recompress when you come back down anyhow. :( Aw.

My two favorite parts:

“I can’t believe I’m talking to space! I should say something really profound. EAT IT, Jon Stewart — I’m talking to space!!”

“Hail, Xenu!” (followed by discussion of Gorlock — apparently Reisman recently fired him)

I hope they keep the Jon part in. :D “EAT IT!!!” Profound indeed.

Oh, and I liked this exchange:

SC: You are a member of the Colbert Nation, are you not, sir?

GR: Well, I guess I should say I’m a member of the Colbert Universe.

SC: We’ve gone galactic!

Silly work. I miss everything lately! At least it’ll be on the show.

Anyone who saw it, how long was the interview? Because if it’s longer than like five minutes they’ll have to cut some of it out. :(

Still, my inner nerd is freaking out that he actually got to do that interview! Plus, we know how much Stephen’s into science fiction and stuff, so he had to be soooo excited about it.

I’d say it was between 15 and 20 minutes. They’ll probably cut out a lot of the delays, but yeah, some of the questions will have to go.

Aww, if only I checked this site an hour ago, I could have caught this. Sad. How long was it?

Thanks for the hint, LaColberta. I’d definitely like to go back and catch the part I missed.

You may want to keep an eye on the “live” feed. I just caught the end of the interview, so they may be repeating it through out the day.
