Difference Maker: Colbert Plate to sell for Parkinson’s Charity
By
Hey, Zoners, this is Jacob B., the “Wish Kid”, and NoFactZone’s Junior Senior Correspondent. With my tenth birthday, I now have a beat of my very own “Difference Maker” – I’m going to tell you about Stephen’s charitable endeavors and events. I’m also going to tell you where you can buy cool and unique stuff that Stephen donated to raise money for charity.
This week, you can get this lovely plate on Ebay which will benefit The Parkinson Society Maritime Region!
Plate by: Stephen Colbert
Stephen Colbert is an American comedian, satirist, actor, and writer. His work as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s news series The Daily Show, first introduced him to a wide audience. His spin off – The Colbert Report has been successful, known as one of Comedy Central’s highest-rated series, earning Colbert three Emmy nominations. Colbert was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in 2006. His book, I Am America (And So Can You!) was No. 1 on The New York Times Bestseller List.
All plates are 9.5 inch Rego Fine Porcelain plates and permanent markers were used for most designs. Some celebrities however, added additional paints and markers.
Don’t be totally uncool and go in there and snipe it, either. Bid it up and make it the most expensive plate ever sold! Bidding ends May-07-08 21:00:00 PDT, so fire up PayPal and bid now!
Visit the auction here, and remember, it’s for charity and Stephen did it, so spend a lot!

I second the wish that I wasn’t a poor college student! SIGH.
Ooh! Maybe I can get my grandma to bid on it! She’s a huge fan of Stephen. (My grandma’s WAY cool.)
Great post, Jacob!

Jacob,
Congratulations on the promotion to “Junior Senior Correspondent.” With the new title, I hope you asked for a raise in salary — er, allowance!

Well, we’re bidding on the plate as a surprise gift for him in honor of his first assignment, so hopefully that will suffice.

Absolutely. :)
I wasn’t trying to cause trouble, honest. I should have written, “new job title,” with the inference that the extra money would be earned.
However, presents DO suffice, especially a Stephen Colbert plate that is so cute. There’s something cheerful about tulip designs in unexpected places. Jacob will always have the gift; extra money will be long spent and forgotten.

Well, that, and I can’t get him to clean up his room. :)
When we went on the wish, Jacob was so excited that Jacob wouldn’t eat and I was starting to get worried – he was just so overwhelmed and excited. Finally, Mark Malkoff goes “You know, Stephen eats. I’ve seen him.” The kid ate.
I tried that – “You know, Jacob, I bet Stephen cleans up his room.”
He stared at me totally deadpan, and went “Mom… who are you kidding. Stephen Colbert has a maid.”
There went that idea.

Lincognocity: that’s awesome of you. Good luck with the bidding! A “happy belated birthday” to Jacob, too.

“Stephen Colbert has a maid.”
LOL. You have one smart kid Lincognocity! I guess he has to be smart though to understand TCR so well at the age of 10.
I’m looking forward to Jacob’s blogs. Anything we can do to bring attention to the charities that Stephen Colbert supports is great. We want as much money as possible to go towards helping others that need it.

I have the solution for people like us who can’t afford it: We can just print out the picture and tape it to our own plates!
Actually, having to do that makes me kind of sad. Oh Bill Gates, won’t you share your money with us poor, hard-working, middle-class citizens? I think I’m going to have another look at that picture of Stephen at the Speed Racer premiere to cheer me up.
Man, I wish I could help out with that charity.

Awesome plate! And it’s a Canadian based charity, cool.
As a side note, Neil Patrick Harris’ plate is pretty elaborate in detail. I wonder if he really did draw it or had someone do it for him.

Oh my God!
I don’t think I’ll win, but I’ll definitely up bid it quite a bit!
Wow… How amazing it would be to have a plate painted/decorated by Stephen!

If I had a job and could afford it, I’d bid on that!

Seriously…that was a great one-liner. In all honesty, though, he’s probably right. : )

I don’t know: on Letterman once, he talked about helping his son clean up his room.
Doesn’t mean he doesn’t also have a maid, but he does clean once in a while.
But, seriously, fantastic line.
