Guest alert: Carl Hiaasen AND Rain to be on Monday’s ‘Colbert Report’

Whoo hoo! From the Orlando Sentinel (emphasis added):

Carl Hiaasen to drop in on Monday’s “Colbert Report”
Posted on May 2, 2008 3:54:57 PM

Carl Hiaasen, who’s one of the best things about Florida, will be a guest Monday on “The Colbert Report.” He will promote the book “The Downhill Lie: A Hacker’s Return to a Ruinous Sport.” How will Stephen Colbert treat him? Humorously, let us hope.

Another guest Monday will be Korean pop singer Rain.

More on next week’s TDS/TCR lineups here

And again, whoo hoo!

Ooh, I’m looking forward to the interview with Arianna Huffington — she and Stephen are always funny together.

    • C says:

Agreed, but I do hope she cuts back the flirtatiousness from around an 11 to an 8 on the 1-10 scale.

Or that she dials it up to 1000 (Fonda level).

Next week sounds like it’s gonna be great fun!

    *shakes fist furiously* RAAAAAAIN!!!!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • I can’t believe his fans are called “clouds”. That’s just so “Hello Kitty”-ish.

I so much prefer being a nation and part of an army than a “cloud” – and I’m a pacifist.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • rebnej says:

So true. But I do enjoy Hello Kitty (don’t ask). I’m so torn . . .

Okay, not really. The Clouds are a little too fruity for me. And I really don’t think I could maintain that level of “fangirliness.”

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • Ms Interpreted says:

This Hello Kitty snark is cracking me up because … well, I have a Hello Kitty e-mail account. I got it as a joke one day and only use it when I have to register for various sites, newspapers, etc., but that actually makes it funnier, in a way, because I forget about it until I e-mail someone an article from The New York Times or something, and they get to laugh at me for seeing the “sender” info come up as [my name]@hellokitty.com.

Oh, and once, I was trying to remember login info for a site that I had registered at using that e-mail, so I was checking that Hello Kitty account from work. One of my co-workers happened to walk into my office then, and his “Ahem” was so smugly hilarious, I still can’t think about it without laughing.

I seriously just fell a little more in love with you, Ms I. Too funny.

        • Add threaded comments, learn things about people you never would have guessed.

The level of truthiness in here is off the Richter scale tonight. :)

          The psychic reCAPTCHA ays…

          arranged RESTUDY.

I shall meditate on that and Hello Kitty, and become enlightened.

          Hopefully before Monday.

Hello Kitty e-mail? That’s the craziest f@#king thing I’ve ever heard!

  4. Sadie07 says:

If any needs a little eye candy, I would highly
recommend going to nathangunn.com and check
out his photo gallery. Mr. Gunn is obviously
famous for his singing as well as his shirt-less
    torso. ;)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • AmandaIvy says:

Oh, he is a pretty one, isn’t he? :) SWOON.
He and Stephen singing together, GAH.

(Haha, my reCAPTCHA is “husband discard”. If I had a husband it could potentially be a sign. But I don’t.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

Also from Nathan Gunn’s website. I like
    the last line!

“Nathan On Colbert Report May 6th

Stephen Colbert’s hilarious show on Comedy Central will feature Nathan as a guest on May 6th. It seems that they’ll both sing.”

  6. jam says:

I am anticipating another musical masterpiece(s) for me to get hooked on for another couple weeks. I just recently finished my infinite-loop of prince, john legend and just a bit of Kansas City *snappy fingers*.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • DB says:

I keep wishing and hoping that they release the “Charlene (I’m Right Behind You)”, video 59061, on the CC website. I check on a fairly regular basis, but it’s been a no-go so far.

      *sigh*

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • jam says:

Haha, db, you also use/memorize the vid ids? I have to use embedded videos on local saved html page at work so they don’t block the site.

I’ll have to write that one down and add it to my music ones

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

        • DB says:

No, not memorized. I do, however, have a wish list of vids that I want to see again and I check them on a fairly regular basis.

  7. Lisa says:

Please let the Rain segment air on Monday. Please, please, please, pretty please!! I’m definitely looking forward to Arianna Huffington.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Wow, I didn’t even see that in the corner about Arianna. I am a huge HuffPo fan and just on a net business level, admire the heck out of her for what she was able to build. I remember the day HuffPo launched and to see what she built it into is astounding.

*That* is going to be a fascinating interview if the writers and Stephen are on top of their game. The varied ways he will try and nail her are mind-boggling.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • rebnej says:

She’s been on TCR twice, and both interviews were hilarious — they have great chemistry together (“you’re very tough on America, but you’re easy on the eye”).

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  8. The Lake Effect says:

    Rain is coming. LOL.

Now to get Shigeru Miyamoto on the show…

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  9. mrtigger001 says:

So long as word gets out among the Rain community (and I think it will), I think TCR’s ratings for Monday’s show will probably increase by the equivalent population of the United States.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • One of the Heroes says:

Rain’s appearance on TCR should be good for both Rain and Stephen. Rain will get the “Colbert Bump” which will help him gain more recognition in the United States and the Rain clouds will definitely watch him on the show. Maybe some of them will find out how great TCR is.

My reCAPTCHA doesn’t think the two will be good for each other: “poisoneach”

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • rebnej says:

I have a sneaky feeling that the appearance will do more for Rain than it will for Stephen. Satire, facetiousness, and sarcasm don’t translate all that well, so for anyone for whom English isn’t a first language, it might be difficult to fully “get” TCR.

(I like the “poisoneach” reCAPTCHA – LOL!!)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  10. AmandaIvy says:

    Sadie07–

I don’t think we’ve ever heard Stephen try his hand at opera!!!

And he and Nathan Gunn can have a opera/shirt-off-off. Lol.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  11. Michele says:

    Yay! Arianna Huffington!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  12. May says:

    yes, Rain is coming indeed.

    *hip thrusts, abs flashing*

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  13. Dorian says:

Great- just hope RAIN doesn’t make an idiot of himself. His “Don’t quit your day job” taunt was pretty awkward.

But this is the first time I’ll see an Asian male being featured on the Colbert Report, so being one myself, I’m crossing my fingers.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • Gaia Faye says:

I thought the taunt was pretty funny. I love Stephen, but my first thought was “oh snap!!” Boy’s got moxie!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  14. vigwig says:

    @ Amandy ivy
The closest thing Stephen came to singing opera was the “You are all Mrs. Colbert” bit which was more like Gilbert & Sullivan. But he’s definitely a lyric baritone. And a shirtless duet w/ Nathan Gunn would be MOST welcome. (And where was Nathan Gunn when I was actively singing, all the male singers i worked with were shaped like cheetos.)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • AmandaIvy says:

      AHAHAHA!!! “Shaped like cheetos”

For some reason I found that absolutely hilarious (I think it was the fleeting mental images).

      Okay… now that I can breath again…

I totally agree. Shirtless duet please!! *grabby hands*

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • AmandaIvy says:

      Wow.

“Breath”… I meant “breathe”. Dear goodness, I need to go to sleep. I’m giggling senselessly and I’m finding myself unable to use proper English. Methinks exams are getting to me.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  15. Tonks says:

omigod. FINALLY! I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for Rain to come on the show. I’m so excited!!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  16. Medusagemini says:

Noooo! I have a final at that time! Must think of a way to sneak miniature TV in my sleeve.

I’m terrified about Rain’s English, some people can be really judgmental. (like they speak Korean, srsly)

I loved Colbert already because of his White House Correspondence Dinner speech. Now I frickkin LOVE him.

Just smile and flex a lot, Bi!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  17. adrian says:

AHH Rain is gonna be a guest!? oh, wow…I cannot wait for this weekend to be over!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  18. Patrice says:

We have to be named clouds because Rain and cloud go together. I’m excited about this show and will watch definately. Yu know Bi is not ussually that thin or has his hair that way, its all for upcoming movie he is doing.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  19. tomy says:
