NEW YORK, May 1, 2008 — Continuing a longstanding tradition that dates back to 2000, Jon Stewart and “The Best F*ing News Team Ever!” will be back on the political trail for the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions with the Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” broadcasting a week of shows in both Denver, CO and Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN as part of its ongoing “Indecision 2008″ coverage of the race for the White House.
“The Daily Show’s” coverage of the Democratic National Convention will be taped at The Byron Theatre in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at The University of Denver and will air nightly at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT from Tuesday, August 26 through Friday, August 29. The show will then head straight to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul and will tape the show at The History Theatre at McNally Smith College of Music with nightly shows at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT from Tuesday, September 2 through Friday, September 5. Tickets for the tapings may be requested at the show’s Web site, www.thedailyshow.com.
This marks the sixth time the series has taken its critically-acclaimed and award-winning “Indecision” coverage on the road to broadcast for a week, having previously travelled to Philadelphia (2000 RNC), Los Angeles (2000 DNC) and Boston (2004 DNC) to cover the national party conventions and to Washington, D.C. (2002) and Columbus, OH (2006) for special, mid-term election coverage. The series first earned its political stripes during the now-infamous 2000 election, receiving an Emmy® Award and a prestigious George Foster Peabody® Award for its year-long “Indecision 2000″ coverage of the race for the White House, feats repeated during the series’ “Indecision 2004″ election reporting.
Politicians who have appeared on “The Daily Show” include former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, former Vice President Al Gore, Senators Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, John Kerry, Joe Biden, Joseph Lieberman, Bob Kerrey, Charles Schumer, Norm Coleman, Arlen Specter, Ted Kennedy, Trent Lott, Rick Santorum, Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer, Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Senator John Edwards, who announced his intention to run for the 2004 Democratic Presidential nomination during an appearance on the show on September 15, 2003. In addition, General Pervez Musharraf, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was Stewart’s guest on September 26, 2006, marking the first time a sitting head of state had appeared on the show.
It’s probably worth highlighting that the show will be taped and broadcast on a Tuesday-Friday schedule as opposed to the usual Monday-Thursday schedule during the conventions. I’m not sure I would have caught it, myself, in the official release, but Broadcasting & Cable helpfully pointed it out.

As thrilled as I am that The Daily Show will hit the road, do you think there is any chance that The Colbert Report will join in the fun? I want to see Stephen causing a raucous at the conventions, but I realize that he’s better known this time ’round and that could be trickier to pull off.

I am sorry to say, it has been disappointing watching the tds correspondents lately…jon is still good and consistent. the conventions are very dependent on the crrspndts, so I am wondering really how good this will be. just my opinion, feel free to disagree.

It looks to me like all the St.Paul tickets are gone already. This is a family-friendly blog, so I won’t say what I think.

I hope TCR will have a live feed from the convention floor as well.

It would be awesome for Stephen to cause some chaos at the conventions. But as ColbertGirl27 said, he’s better known now.
That’s the only downside to TCR’s popularity. He can’t go to events and act out, because people recognize him and expect it from him. The reactions from people were priceless when they thought he was a real member of the press.

Geeze, I’m already exhausted just looking at their 2-week schedule away from home. Thanks for the info about their airing schedule running on different days than usual.

I feel very strongly that Jon and Stephen should combine forces and report TOGETHER with an hour-long show.
Maybe if the fans demand it…?
