Unsubstantiated rumor of the day: K-Pop star Rain to appear on ‘The Colbert Report’ 4/28?

By Ms Interpreted on April 27th, 2008 ·

Well, kiddies, there’s a new rumor flying around “the internets” today. There has been *NO* official word on this, so far as I can tell, but make of it what you will:

Rain to be on Stephen Colbert’s TV show

Stephen Colbert vs. Rain - Possible cuddle-off in the works?On Monday, April 28th before going to London for “Speed Racer” promotion, Rain will appear on the Stephen Colbert TV show from New York City. Rain has been challenged to do a “dance-off” by Colbert after he appeared by way of a video message this week. He should expect a hostile audience of Colbert supporters, but Rain fans should remember it is all in fun. “The Colbert Report” appears on the Comedy Central station Mon. thru Fri. (in some areas it shows twice a day with the earlier one being a repeat from the previous night’s show). Check your area’s scheduling for time of the show.

I do hope this is true, if only because a dance/cuddle-off would be hilarious, but please keep in mind that it’s only a rumor at this point. Let the speculation begin!

EDIT:

Another place the rumor has showed up is on another Rain fan blog, Rain-USA. The information is for members only, but was reposted on the rain_on_us boards over at LiveJournal.

Dear god, let this be true. I see an Urgent Fangirl Bulletin in our future *fingers crossed*

Feist has also been booked for the show, so I’m really hoping this is true too. A show where Colbert both dances and sings is destined to win him an emmy.

ZOMG! I hope it’s true, too. This would be incredible.

If this turns out to be true, I think I may very well explode from the sheer joy and glee. Someone will have to scoop up my remnants and pile them together so I can still watch the episode.

Yes, YES a thousand times YES!… Please. :)

If I’m reading that blog post on LJ correctly, Rain will be there Monday afternoon, which makes me think a pre-taped segment will air in the future. I wouldn’t bet the farm that he’s appearing on Monday’s show.

But hey, I could be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time. :-D

Oh please let this be true!

I am impressed with what TCR is able to pull off on a regular basis.

@Ann,
You are right. There is a possibility that they could pre-tape a segment for a later episode. Either way, it will make for great television!

If pre-taped it could be a “Singing in Korean II”, Rain singing in English, Stephen in Korean.

They’re called the rain_on_us boards? God help me, I’m starting to feel inferior in my fangirlishness.

Anyway — yesss! Please let this be true!

Wow! Rain’s fangirls even know what flights he is on!
I think that takes “fangirl” to another level! :)

@ sadie07

That kind of dedication frightens me, honestly.

@Erin
I totally agree with you! I guess my snarkiness
didn’t translate well. I think that’s kinda creepy.

Having fanclubs welcome stars at the airport is really big in Asia. It’s not necessarily so creepy – Rain’s management will have contacted the fanclub and given the flight details deliberately.

OMFG this should definitely happen. I am soo excited now!!!

I would love to see that dance off/spoon off/cuddle off! I hope this rumor is true.

@Daniel:

Very good point. The Asian fan experience is quite different, I think, than the American one. I’ve seen pics of fans going nuts at airports and always wondered how they got that information.

@ Daniel and DB-
Then after your explanation, I will say
“how sweet”. :)

I wonder if the stars think it’s creepy though, to arrive at the airport to hundreds of girls screaming “I want to have your babies” at them.

I’d find it creepy, but as you said, the Asian fangirl is different from American fangirls (though there are some American fangirls that transcend that line of difference).

GAH. Pretaped or not, I’m still so excited! And we don’t even know if it’s true or not. …Though I’m assuming we’re collectively thinking it’s true because the Rain fangirl populous has some wicked informants.

This maybe the stupidist question, but I notice people always use it but I don’t know what is stands for. ZOMG, what does that stand for? I know what OMG stands for but what is the Z? I have been wondering this for a long time so I just had to ask.

On the other hand when I heard Stephen suggest this on his show I freaked out just because I want to see Rain dance, he’s pretty damn good. Stephens good too.

Thanks Daniel, I have to be honest though, after reading what it meant I’m kind of dissapointed.

@ Gabby. Don’t worry, I never knew what “LMAO” stood for, and when I asked people would lie to me and say it was “an island”. So when I found out, I too was disappointed.

Anyways, Rain or no Rain, I have a feeling Monday’s going to be an awesome show. Stephen’s guests are getting so “hip” now.

This is off topic, but I just found out that Saturday, May 3 “Strangers With Candy” (the movie) is going to be on The Movie Channel.

Unfortunately, for those who don’t have The Movie Channel (me. SIGH), that’s the only channel it’s coming on.

Even more unfortunately, it comes on at 3 a.m. So those of you that do have The Movie Channel, will have to be willing to stay up uber-late.

SIGH. I need to get it on DVD. Renting just doesn’t suffice in cases like SWC.
