From the AP:
Hillary Clinton to Appear on ‘Colbert’
By JAKE COYLE – 17 minutes agoPHILADELPHA (AP) — Hillary Clinton is hoping the “Colbert bump” will help propel her to victory in Pennsylvania.
The Democratic presidential candidate will make her first appearance on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” on Thursday. Both Clinton and Colbert have come to Pennsylvania ahead of the state’s hard-fought Democratic primary on April 22.
Clinton rival Barack Obama also is in Pennsylvania, but has thus far declined Colbert’s invitation. Obama’s wife, Michelle, will appear on the show Tuesday.
News of Clinton’s visit was divulged Monday night in Philadelphia by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews. He blurted it out during taping of the show at the University of Pennsylvania’s Zellerbach Theater. The news was confirmed by a person close to the satirical news program, who insisted on anonymity because the date of the visit hadn’t been publicly announced.
EDIT:
Now that the strike is over, we can feature this video, which is one of my favorite references yet to Hillary on the show.
Way to keep a secret, Chris Matthews!
It’s a good “get” though, and it should be pretty awesome.

I have a feeling this interview is going to be hysterical.

I just realized what an obvious statement I made.

Wow. She’s actually doing it… color me interested…

@ Scott–
They should make a crayon in the shade of “interested”.
Get on that Crayola!

I hope she doesn’t pander to the audience and pull a Fonda.

This is going to be good. On talk shows in the past she’s brought on silly props and told ready-made focus group approved gems, like telling Letterman that she was late because she was “busy dodging sniper fire”, or bringing a bag with whiskey and “pot” to Ellen Degeneres as her secret to relaxation on the campaign trail.
Stephen on the other hand is not going to be having any of that, and it will be interesting to see just how she manages.

I’m really looking foward to this. Kind of funny, but really just very unnatural and weird. On the Report on the other hand Stephen is not going to be having any of that, and for once she’s really going to have to be herself to make a good impression.

@lulubelle and @izzie:
Does Hillary even know how to be herself anymore? Is there anything she won’t folksily say or act like to get PA in her pocket? Other than flatly admitting she shouldn’t have voted to go to war, that is.
It’s a fabulous “get” for TCR and well-deserved, but after TDS and Saturday Night Live, the scent of desperation wafts in with Hillary’s late-night, last-minute show appearances.
Hillary Clinton pulling a Jane Fonda? I can’t think of anything more hilarious at this moment (laughing tea right out of my mouth), but no, I don’t think she’s going to flirt. She knows that story too well. . .

Awesome! I’m really looking forward to this. I LOVEd her on Letterman and TDS. This should be fun to watch also, not like that uptight Michelle from last night.

Personally, I have not cared for Hillary’s appearances on other late night shows. Still, I must admit it is brave and gutsy of her to go head to head with Stephen. This could go great, or go poorly.
Things are so tense in the Democratic race that everyone is on edge, being super careful of their words and holding back. Thank you Stephen, for regularly making us all laugh and relax a bit.
