Stephen Colbert made the “Quote of the Day” for the Time Magazine website, but what really caught my attention was this delish picture.
“This is a really big deal. A Peabody is like an Oscar wrapped in an Emmy inside a Pulitzer. It’s the Turducken of awards.”
- Comedian STEPHEN COLBERT
on winning the international Peabody Award for excellence in radio and television broadcasting

A “delish picture” indeed – *sigh.* : )

Hey if I was an intern I’d get to see this all day. I can only dream. Big Sigh.

I guess I’ll be the only one, but I think he looks super old on that picture.

*sigh* Eye candy posts…my favorite. Lisa happy… That quote made us both laugh hysterically the other night too.

That’s a lovely picture. (Why is it that in every still of him speaking, he’s genturing in an arguably dirty way?)

@ Nancie
LOL! Perhaps just a bit but since I’m only a few years younger than him I don’t mind it. :-)

Lighting/camera angle/make-up, are so important for a pic’s outcome.
I’m always happy to see a pic I haven’t seen before. Thanks.
So *that’s* what a Turducken is…lol

He’s presumably not wearing the airbrushed makeup that they put on him for the show. That stuff does miracles for anybody!

I love this picture! The real human being shines out, earnest eyes and all. I’ve been noticing lately that, compared to the earlier days of TCR, “Stephen”‘s makeup, and especially his hair, have gotten more and more harsh-looking (for lack of a better word). And I know that’s appropriate for the character – perfect, un-ruffle-able, crisp. But it’s also why I have so much affection for the real guy – skin texture, crows feet, softer hairline, possible slight stubble. In other words, as funny as deflating the pumped-up ego of “Stephen” is, the subtle layers of Stephen are incredibly yummy in a different way. And he’s STILL funny.

I love this picture, too. And I agree with somuch2kno that the subtle layers of Stephen are incredibly yummy. For me, the show wouldn’t be nearly so funny or interesting without the real guy shining through.

@ auds – I totally agree. The draw is not just the funny – tho’ silly is a great hook – it’s the concurrent things that make you go ‘hmmmm….’. I love when Stephen says that there are times when he means what “Stephen”‘s saying, and that he doesn’t care if we can tell when that is. Or that his South Carolina presidential campaign was both real and a joke. He’s constantly combating the black-and-white-ness of things (by being adamantly black-and-white about things), making me examine my automatic responses to something (by steadfastly having knee-jerk reactions), and suggesting the plurality that exists in situations (by having a narrow view and holding fast to it like a bulldog with a bone). It’s the layers of himself that Stephen brings to his craft and entertainment that makes him stand out so irresistibly.
