Post-promotour thoughts from R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs
ByTip of the hat to Karen, who brought this posting from R.E.M. manager Bertis Downs to our attention. From www.remhq.com:
POSTCARD FROM THE END OF THE PROMOTOUR
Well another strange thing we lovingly call a promotour has come to an end.
. . .
New York City, where the band did Rockline and the Today Show within about 9 hours (including naptime!). TODAY, even considering the earliness of the hour, seemed a lot more fun this time, and we heard it sounded and looked great on tv. But the coup d’grace of the promotrip was the next night when the band achieved one of those career milestones by playing (first rawk band to ever do so–another first!) on the Peabody Award-winning Colbert Report hosted by Stephen Colbert. Right up there with their Thanksgiving turn a few years ago, on The Simpson’s, this was right up there among the game-changing, even life-changing moments that one hopes to live for someday. If you haven’t seen it, please check it out: Colbert Report. A good time was had by all. Next time we are getting the guys taller stools!
. . .
Awww, the visit to The Colbert Report was the “coup d’grace of the promotrip”? That’s great to hear! Anyhow, love the pic; go to the link to see a few more (the one with Mike Mills puckering up to Stephen made me laugh).
Thanks again for the link, Karen, and thanks to R.E.M. for years of great memories!

Ha ha, Stephen looks like an excited fan, especially in the third photo! He’s so clean-cut against their gruff rock star physiques.
It’s great that they had such an awesome time there.

This is great! Thanks for sharing it MS I. After watching last night’s episode of TCR, I was back in R.E.M. fan mode so I was listening to their music when I saw this post. It was perfect timing.
As amazing as R.E.M. is, it is great to read that they still consider an appearance on The Colbert Report to be game changing and life changing. Everyone at REMHQ obviously gets it.
I love the pictures.

I’m sorry for the double post but I forgot to add one thing. Isn’t it cool to read “The Peabody Award-winning Colbert Report…”?

It sure is! It put a big smile on my face.
I kinda love Mike Mills right now for that puckering-up pic. That is so great.
