Stephen Colbert likes his caffeine inappropriately

By DB on February 27th, 2008 ·

Also, if you’re into Starbucks and caffeine humor, you might want to check out 171 Starbucks, written and performed by ‘The Colbert Report’ audience coordinator and friend of the blog, Mark Malkoff.

Edit:
Also, Stephen Colbert has liked his Starbucks inappropriately for some time now.

Didn’t Mark pour coffee all over himself too?
I’m going to rewatch ‘171 Starbucks’ now…
Carmina Burana and all!

When it first started out, I was like, okay, um, this is identical to Jason Jones’ segment. Only then I was like, yay! Stephen in not a suit. And then I was like, yay! slightlyawkwardbutalsoveryintense Stephen in not anything. And then I was like, hahaha, coffee bath. And then I was like, holy s#!t, I can’t believe he went there. And then he sprinkled cinnamon on himself and it ended, with me still in shock.

@ Shruti,

Please, pretty please, watch the language. Thanks.

I have just picked myself up off the floor after watching this…I must rewatch it now because I missed most of the end of it after laughing so hard at Stephen chained up and growling like a dog. Aaaahahahahahaa!

And yes, this does make me want to watch 171 Starbucks all over again. Part of me is secretly hoping Mark will make a little video on this story.

The first time I watched it , I was a bit slack jawed/bug-eyed from the shock.

The second time I watched it, I was laughing at the progressively more dishevelled, bad tempered, and desperate Colbert. And yes, chained and growling Colbert was a scream.

And then that wretched husk of a shell of a man finally drags himself into Starbucks…LOL

My reaction to the shower scene bounces from laughter to…not laughter.

So I’m not sure how to vote in the poll….both a and b, maybe?

With regard to the Stephen Colbert and Starbucks: Hot or not Poll, can I vote all 3 answers?! Stephen is a naughty boy, and I love it!

got to attend a taping of last nights’ show and watching Colbert laughing at the clip as it played was almost as funny as the clip itself.

I only watch TCR on iTunes. I have decided today that it’s about time I buy a new present for myself–a brand-spanking-new state-of-the-art huge monitor!

I am so jealous that you were able to watch Stephen watching himself during this clip!

I went to Starbucks this morning and I actually heard folks talking about this. I don’t see the show until the 8:30 pm rerun airs (sometimes I watch the clips online when I eat breakfast) so I had no idea what all the buzz was about this morning until I watched the clip.

I loved seeing Stephen in street clothes and he is always so funny when he plays like he’s in a bad mood or when he does caffeine or drug addiction types of segments. He brings an intensity to it which makes it so entertaining.

He went further than I expected him to in the shower scene. He is so good at what he does because he just goes all out for the laughs. Comedy is about surprises and putting yourself out there. He certainly does that!

Starbucks coffee has a whole new meaning for me now.

I had to watch the 12:30 (CST) rerun because it was so awesome.

On a related note? Welcome back, Threat Down!

First off I hope that Starbucks appreciates all of the free advertising. Maybe they are a sponsor. The Colbert Report coffee crisis kicked ass over The Daily Show one. As with any good script, the clock added tension. Dog collar made it over the top. I actually thought the tread mill was pretty funny. And then finally getting the coffee with mussy hair and no glasses. And the shower… well… eh hem…

a scene worth recreating!

I loved that whole segment! I think I may have forgotten my own name for a few seconds there though. Then I laughed so loudly at the coffee shower I woke my husband up. He looked at the TV, half-awake, and said, “What is he doing?!?” LOL! How exactly does one even begin to explain?

I actually had a dream about him kind of re-enacting that scene. For some reason he was in my old house where my Mom and I used to live. We were upstairs and he asked me if I had any coffee. We did have a coffee maker, but no coffee. Nobody in the house drinks coffee. Starbucks had closed too. I guess the guy needed coffee. He started acting like this enraged bear. I’m not sure if he was acting or really needing coffee, but it was funny! I was rotfl through most of it. I had to follow him to see what he was doing. In the end he ran downstairs and hid for a second. Then he popped out of the stairway for a second shirtless. At that point I thought he might have been going too far. But that was funny! I really wish I could have taped this dream. I’d play it back for everyone.

@grey_horse27,
That must have been hilarious — so lucky!

i was a little iffy on that segment because of its striking resemblance to jason jones’ version (pure coincidence, i’m betting).

and then came that shower scene. wow. i never thought to use cinnamon that way before. 5 stars.

mrtigger001,

Yes, I’m sure it was a coincidence, as they both aired last night and were dealing with a situation that happened in the preceding 24-hour period. When he was Executive Producer for both shows, Ben Karlin used to be responsible for seeing that segments on The Colbert Report didn’t echo those from The Daily Show too closely, but it’s been said in several interviews since his departure that nobody coordinates that any longer.

Stephen is an incurable tease and we love it. ;D

I’ll document from now on when Stephen appears in my dreams. I’ll post them here for your enjoyment. That taking of the shirt thing in my dream was hilarious too.

North Face jacket FTW.

I also had an indescribably weird dream about Stephen last night. I’ll blame it on this segment too if that counts as an adequate explanation, because otherwise I might have to look at it as an early symptom of dementia.

Good think I’m alone in the office–I was howling! I love it when Stephen does physical comedy. The whole thing was very funny but I especially loved it when he picks the girl up in the hall (should have been Meg the Intern though) and the shower–. I thought, “oh, he’s not gonna go there…?!” But it’s Stephen–of course he’s gonna go there! Very, very funny (and it was fun to see a bit of his office too–I love those maps made from license plates).

Really funny! I also loved it when Stephen started pawing at the Starbucks door. That was adorable!Nice legs, too! ;)

Like most everyone else, I was thinking it was a shame that TDS and TCR had accidentally done similar segments. Well, that thought went out the window pretty quickly. I was howling with laughter and cringing throughout the entire segment. My poor neighbors! I ended up being so distracted by the segment that I completely forgot it was part of the ThreatDown. Oh ThreatDown, how I’ve missed you:)

Oh my goodness, he was totally spot on with the entire show last night. I was still giggling at his idea for “Stephen Colbopoly” and the rage at McCain for “fathering an illegitimate black bear cub”, then he comes back from commercial, and I could hardly contain myself. Everyone else was asleep and I was trying to keep quiet.

Jason Jones’ segment was funny too, but went on the “Oh my God, he didn’t just do that! That’s nasty!” side of funny, while Stephen, as per his style, took it totally over-the-top hilarious. Being chained up like a dog was absolutely a riot- mainly because that’s how I feel when I don’t get my morning coffee- and of course the shower scene. I literally said “Oh my God!” out loud. I’m glad I didn’t wake anyone up. And of course, after seeing that on the 11:30 (EST) show, I had to stay up to see it again on the 1:30 a.m. re-run.

@truth and olivia
I had several weird dreams about Stephen last week. I think it may have been withdrawal symptoms. The man even has power over our dreams.

@DB
After watching this video, I don’t think we need to worry too much that Stephen would get offended when you post “eye candy” pictures.

Stephen looks like he’s been working out. I liked the treadmill outfit.

I watched one of Inara Serra’s videos yesterday (linked from MeowHouse’s), and all I could think was the lyric from Instant Pleasure:

“If drinkin’ coffee’s your idea of really cool
You can’t expect no crazy chick to notice you–”

Ah, but Seth Swirsky is wrong. ;P

Was it milk foam? Whipped cream? What?!?

Reply

I think it’s whipped cream. Yummy scene!

Reply

ZOMG, this episode was awesome. I thought it was so weird when he went to commercials before the final threatdown.

@ shower scene: one tall order of sin-o-stephen dolce latte, please. extra pump french vanilla. lots of foam.

Probably shaving cream = prop of choice.

Did he just give Starbucks the Colbert Bump?

Starbucks could use another product, maybe Stephen Colbert’s Ectastically Clean Body Wash. When only the naked truth will do.

@Gaia Faye: the only other tidbit I can think of is that everyone’s fav audience coordinator, Mark, mentioned they were working on a special, which came up after being asked about more “Stephen & The Colberts” videos…

This was prolly the hottest freaking thing I’ve ever seen, lol. Hilarious and hot at the same time. So great. XD

I know we don’t have Wonky Ear anymore, but does anyone know where I can find pics of this? I know I had a reason why, but I can’t recall right now…but anyway, yeah, does anyone know where I can find pics of Stephen pouring coffee on himself…and the whipped cream…and the cinnamon…? X]

Mostly what I was thinking when I watched the starbucks shower was “I bet the colboards are berserking right not” and also that Eris was probably … lol … exhausted.

He was awfully kind to the fangirls last week, wasn’t he?

@ barenjager. I was just thinking the same thing…very kind, and so very flexible (both literally *and* metaphorically) ;D

Yes he was VERY kind to his fangirls last week! But isn’t he always? :-)

You mean Stephen? Yeah I know he loves us fan girls. I have a Colbertt obsession. Just ask my Dad. I’ve watched that video about 5 times now. I need an intervention as well. Man that man is handsome.

Actually Stephen has the right idea here, but instead of showering with coffee, use coffee grounds.

Take grounds fresh from your coffee maker and rub liberally all over, face, neck, body… wherever… your skin will *glow* and enjoy a perfect pH balance. No soap afterwards — just rinse.

And of course, make sure to use Starbucks coffee grounds.

You’re welcome.

There are plenty of good reasons to subscribe to The Motley Fool. The Jester’s Court rates high on my personal list of reasons, because of links to off-beat stuff, like this video, which I wouldn’t otherwise have found. They are a perfect complement to Flippant Fridays.

I’ll never be able to drink Starbucks in public again.

You requested a ‘heads-up’ on how the site was mentioned. (Real cute video, Stephen)

It follows:

‘I think I must have visited more than 10 coffee houses during my two-day stay for the Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX) annual meeting. I swear it was for market research — and I have the caffeine withdrawal to prove it. (Scroll down to Jester’s Court to see how Stephen Colbert dealt with his withdrawal.)’
