Updated guest alert: Henry Louis Gates, Jr. to be on tonight’s ‘Colbert Report’

By Ms Interpreted on February 26th, 2008 ·

Contrary to my earlier post, it now looks like Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is scheduled for tonight’s show (it seems that Comedy Central decided to have a laugh at me by posting the guest info after I checked it). He’s listed as being the author of The Root, about which I haven’t seen any info about yet, but I recall being impressed by his book The Signifying Monkey when I read it years ago, so I’m thinking it will be an interesting show.

Hat tip to magdalena!

UPDATED: Madeleine Albright is now listed as tonight’s Daily Show guest. Robert S. Bennett’s Colbert appearance was listed on publisher Random House’s website earlier today, and that appearance has since been removed.

FURTHER UPDATED: D’oh! Some days, I really manage to amaze myself with my own stupidity. The reason I couldn’t recall hearing anything about The Root was that I was thinking it was a book. It’s not. It’s a pretty cool online magazine; check it out here.

@Ms Interpreted: “Robert S. Bennett’s Colbert appearance was listed on publisher Random House’s website earlier today, and that appearance has since been removed.”

Mr. Bennett is a high-profile attorney who has very recently been in the news in connection with John McCain’s New York Times/Washington lobbyist scandal.

When I saw your earlier post, I wondered if Stephen would touch on that topic during the interview.

I also wonder whether the interview might have been cancelled for that reason. Just my idle speculation.

Yep, thanks Sadie07. Unfortunately, she didn’t post the scheduled guests until about an hour and a half ago (which would have saved me some editing, anyhow), but it’s great to see that she’s got The Late Night TV Page back to its full strength again. It’s just one more thing to be happy about now that the strike is really and truly over!

I cannot wait for the Gates interview. He currently has a PBS special for Black History Month called African-American Lives 2. Amazing and very moving special where he and his team of researchers go back as far as possible into the family histories of people like Morgan Freeman, Don Cheadle, etc. I highly recommend it.
